Olive has to go to the vet today - just for a check-up mainly, and also I want to get her tested for "friends" - lol- BUT....it is FREEZING out- and the trip one way is over an hr - I have those hand heat packs- but they get very hot- if I wrap it in tons of newspaper, then a towel will that be ok? I also have one of those rice socks- but OMG- those stink so bad - I am worried about the stress on her- she is just now - after 2 mos! settling in - she is not ill in anyway- should I just put the visit off ? it is today @ 2:30 - + I think she knows whats up- she wont poop for me :p !! and that is the whole reason for the visit is to look at her poo ! I made sure she got a very big drink of water, but I turned off her dripper so she wont have any chance of being wet when she goes out ( she like to just sit under it and let it drip on her all day) and she has been munching on crix and mantis- but took those out to so she will not have undigested food in her- anything else I should do ??

Your idea of the hand warmer wrapped in a towel sounds like a good idea. I'd also put her in a shoebox, so that you can wrap her up a little, or at least keep all the heat in there with her. I'd think she should be fine. If it was just a check-up I'd suggest post-poning it, but since she hasn't poohed, and that's a concern, then I'd go ahead with the appointment. Good luck!

I always warm up the car before we leave and use heat packs , but I know what u mean about those hand ones they get super hot ..just to have them on hand for any future trips order some from tsk supply , that's the ones I use for shipping and vet visits..if u do end up using the hand ones just keep her in front with u and periodically open the box to vent some of the hot air out,as long as car is warm..good luck:)

I have a foam box she goes in, and I also have a dig/ temp probe in the box- so I know how warm she will be the whole time- I just worry that my heat will run out and she will get cold before I get home :(
she has never had a reg / poo routine - she may go every am for days- then wait, and go one huge one- or who knows - lol but that is why I want to take her for more of a check up before it becomes a NEEDED vet visit- and I have to take her ( not just her poo) because I would be shocked it she did not have worms- and they need to SEE her or they wont give the meds to get rid of them- but that is fine - I am also having her looked at to see if she is gravid too- ( I dont want to treat her for worms if she is, unless they are realllllly bad)

yes- I am DEF/ going to get some of those - cuz if she is not gravid, I want to take her for a "date" - lol but I do not even know of a "willing" male yet :p

Turn everything back on. Your best chance for a poop deposit is water and food. Do you have an insulated box or even a cheap cooler? A cooler with a warm, not hot towel should be fine. If you use a cooler don't close the top tightly. Most of the time chams like to poop on vets.:D:D:D

Every time we had to take Picasso to the vet, which has been a lot the past couple of months, it has been cold, so I just get the car warm, put him in a warm hand towel and then he goes inside my coat next to my warm body and as soon as he goes in the coat and I zip it up half way he is fast asleep....we get to the vet, I take him out and everyone in the building just wants to know all about him, surprising how many people don't know what he is or has never seen one.....good luck Cheryl, I know you will do what is best for her.

May I ask you why do you want to get her to the vet when there is no urgency? I understand that you love your Chameleon and are concern about its health. And I am very sure that your husbandry is great (not the least because this forum is a great source of advise). But wether it is cold outside or hot, it poses unnecessary stress onto the animal either way. Mine even get stressed when I move a branch in the enclosure. If it can be avoided, I would postpone the vet visit until it is really needed.

well, that is that- lol the vet called, and ask if I could move to Thurs- NO :( I took today off of work to take her- he can not see her today- sooooo because the visit was not due to an illness- we are just going to wait for my work to slow down, and I can take her later - like in April  - this kinda irks me- it took me 2 weeks of BEGGING to get this day off- but, I am a firm believer all things happen for reasons - and she is not sick, but I just know she has "friends" - but, they also said, if she is not stressed - they live w/ these in them in the wild- and should cause her no harm until we can treat her later- plus, it will be much warmer very soon - this is good I guess, I have to take the puppy and Apache to the vet (an hr the OTHER WAY) at 5:30 - the puppy is getting his due-claws off ( I TOTALLY disagree w/ this :( - I think it is MEAN ) and Apache is sick - but I also now have time to order the correct heat packs for her - so see- I guess all is well in the world :D;)

also, now the crabby vine lump ( aka: Olive my love ) can get her food and water back :p
