Line Breeding

I am not an advocate of line breeding by any means. But the island of Nosy be is only 120 square miles. That's about 10 times smaller than Rhode Island. There has GOT to be a lot of inbreeding going on over there, wouldn't one think?

perhaps. But any negative consequences, animals that are in poor health, will die off quickly in nature. In captivity, we tend to pamper our pets along and breed animals that are pretty (rather than robust)

To be more specific, Ambanja is the locale of discussion here, and from a logical approach, in regards to genetic diversity, after evaluating the natural proliferation and propagation of several island locales, while acknowledging Ambanja is not an island, this pairing would appear to be entirely safe, lest, as previously stated, the origin genome contained a particularly undesirable recessive trait. I fully understand the stigma affiliated with any from of line breeding, I also understand that even with evidence supporting the viability of this pairing there will be those who will object with the practice regardless. I typically opt to leave emotion out of anything involving calculation and probability; objectivity tends to offer little room for one's personal feelings. That is not to say I am completely devoid of emotion, on the contrary, I am highly passionate in every other aspect of chameleon keeping. It is in the matters of husbandry, health, handling, research and education where I find my passion is personified. Because I feel confident with this pairing, but still understand that there are those who object, when the time comes I will indicate the specific clutches rendered as to provide this community, and the general public, with an opportunity to pass on the offering in order to preserve their personal beliefs. Even if my ideals conflict with your own, it is my obligation to fully and transparently inform you of what you are purchasing. Every chameleon I produced is a representation of myself; the time spent perfecting husbandry, the willingness to do everything in my power to provide adequate healthcare when able and to defer to a professional when the conditions have surpassed my limitations. This thread was created to both gain a general idea of where several members stand on the topic and to gain additional scientific input on the subject itself, and for those who were willing to contribute to the thread I am grateful. Apologies for any grammatical or spelling errors in this response, submitting posts from a phone is not as fun as you may think :p.
