Lily's Digging!

So, Lily has been crazy restless for the last week or two and just motoring around. I was suspicious of her being somewhere between receptive and gravid, but couldn't tell for sure- panthers seem much more subtle than veileds! And with her having being on and off sickly for the last few months, I can barely remember her "normal". Her weight as of yesterday is only 48g, so I sort of wrote it off. No way she's carrying eggs at that sort of weight, right? And visually, she doesn't look like she's carrying.

Well, this afternoon has her facedown in a hole, digging away. Here's to a quick lay and a small clutch, Lily! She couldn't have picked a worse time if she tried... I'll be gone for the next few days while I visit family. o_O This will be her first clutch.

Yesterday, right before weighing her (she had been rooting around in her substrate):

I hope she doesn't get too chilly. I misted her enclosure before I found her. It's a pretty hidden spot! Gonna end up right against the PVC pipe and the corner of the planter, assuming this isn't a test hole.

Good luck! 48g seems on the light side, how old is Lily again? My girls are both around there at 8 months. The vet doesn't think they've developed eggs yet, but they're quite small still. Clarice is 1year and she is over 100g after laying. Just curious if Lily's a youngin' like mine.

She sure found a good spot to build a fort!

Wow Imelda is a far cow she’s 110 after laying.

Lily's just about a year and a half, give or take a few months. I don't have an exact age on her - she's a pet store reject, and I brought her home when she was around 8 months or so if my quick math was correct. Employees didn't have an age on her - just said that they "got her when she was little" and had had her for about 5 months without finding her a home. So, assuming they got her when she was around 3 months, she would have been around 8ish when I brought her home in April 2019. Lily hadn't had the best of care, and I often wonder if she has a small frame or if she's a bit stunted! She's always been very light, even when she was visibly fat (inflated fat pads on her head, chubby arms) she was 58g.

She hadn't laid any eggs while under their care, so this's be her first clutch. I'm pretty shocked that she's laying at such a slight weight, behaviour aside. Must be a small clutch! Or at least, I sure hope so. And hopefully everything's properly calcified.... ugh. Ladies!

Snuck a quick picture (she's completely entranced with her digging). Ought to hit something nice and solid to lay against soon!

Aww, she does look like she has a tiny belly from that angle. Hopefully its a tiny clutch, thats my goal with my girls. I think the panther girls in general are smaller than the veileds. My veileds at 8 months seemed 2x the size of my panther girls.

How’s Lilly this morning?

Lily is up top basking, after spending the night face up in her hole. It doesn't look like she did a very good job filling in the tunnel, so I'm not 100% sure if she laid. I'll get her watered, see if she wants a snack, get a weight, and report back! :)

Looks like it's gonna be hard to retrieve the eggs, congrats on your new future panther clutch

Thanks Salty; it's an infertile clutch anyway. I'm only going to dig them up to count them/examine the eggs, and then I'll put them back for the CuC to snack on. :)

My itty bitty girl laid me an itty bitty clutch! 10 perfect eggers. ❤ I might have missed one or two - Lily dug into an extremely awkward area! - but I think that's most of them. The CuC will clear out any stragglers. I just wanted to make sure they looked ok, and give them a count.

Lily's one hungry mama! I'll feed her whatever she likes today. Quick and painlessfirst time laying experience! So happy she didn't have any issues, given her medical history. Phew! Now I can go on my mini vacation without worrying about her constantly!

She has a little calcium dust on her lips, haha
