Lights out at night

i have a 13 week old Panther Cham. I've read that some people turn all there lights out at night. Was just wondering if this also includes the heat bulb. I turn his uv light off every night at 8pm but leave his heat bulb on. It's on a dimmer stat so it sometimes gets brighter at night. Shall I turn the stat down at night? Or just leave it? Hopefully this isn't to confusing!:ROFLMAO:

K.,

It is thought that chams. should be provided "DARK" at night. Temp. depends on where you are and how cold it gets during the night where your cham. sleeps. A drop down to 60* F is thought to be beneficial for panthers and veilds alike at night. You can provide this temp. without light. Information can be found in the resource section at the top of the home page.

Night Lights
Chameleons do not need night lights. A drop in temperature down to 60F (15C) is actually good for metabolism. If temperatures drop lower than that a ceramic heat emitter that does not give off light can be used. Chameleons have a photoreceptive scale (parietal eye) on their head that senses light so even the blue and red bulbs disrupt sleep.

Thank you

Definitely dark all night- even some light in the room at night can disrupt his sleeping pattern, I have a light/ heat emitting bulb for my chams heat during the day on a dimmer stat-
I turn that off at night so it's total darkness, they can safely go down to normal house night temps- our house goes to about 10-16 c in the winter and he has no extra heat. :)

Thank you for the easy reply!! Have just turned his dimmer stat right down!:)

Hi there, I unplug my stat completely- if I turn the stat down it the light will still come on albeit very faintly.
So during the day the bulb is on shining bright at the set daytime temp- stat regulating the temp - no need to adjust what you have set it at.
Nighttime - plugs out and no light.
:)

No lights at night 4 Panthers. They thermal regulate so they can drop down to a pretty low temperature no more past 60. If it gets too cold I try a ceramic. Summer seasons 12 hours awake I use. Then they reduce it during the Winter's to about 10 gradually and then back up. You'll get a lot more advice. Just find out what works best for you hope this helps

Okay thank you! I said to dad about unplugging it and he was worried about him! (He's completely new to reptiles and never listens to me):ROFLMAO: so I'm waiting for him to go to bed so I can unplug it!haha thank you again!

It's pitch-frigging-black in my reptile room at night. I use infrared heat emitters for my boas so they stay around 78-90 at night. The Chameleons have no heating at night since the house tends to stay around 72F in their room in the colder months. During the day the heat from my light systems brings temps up from 78-90 on their own.
