i am new to chameleons and im still setting up my viv ive a terry hatchit 2x2x3 mesh viv and a 150 w metal halide aquarium light is that enough for day time

Do a search for lighting,i know there are atleast a dozen threads about it. But as far as i know aquarium lighting isnt recomended for housing chameleons, it also depends on conditions ie temps. But i know for sure you are going to need a uvb bulb (recomended) the linear tubes like reptisun 5.0 and depending again on age and conditions a light for heat. Fill out a how to ask for help form so that everyone can tell what you have for the enclosure so far.

Howdy Lal,

I'm not familiar with a "terry hatchit" viv . Got any photos or links to it? It is my understanding that Metal halide (MH) light sources can produce excellent spectral content for visible lighting. You will want to verify that your MH unit has the right visible light content for reptiles in case it has something "exotic" for fish instead. Just don't expect any UVB light from it unless it was bought from www.reptileuv.com . You'll want to add a Zoo Med Reptisun 5.0 linear tube and fixture for UVB. If you are going to use the 150W MH as a basking heat source as well as for visible lighting then be sure to position it above the your chameleon's screened enclosure far away enough to produce the desired and verified basking gradient temps.

Thanks dave just noticed your reply I'll do that as the metal halide does give out a nice light and is good for the plants I live in London in the UK

Do you know anything about using sodium lights or a envirolight
