Lighting

Hello everyone i was wondering if i could get as many people as possible posting the type of Cham they have and the Lighting specs including BRAND, WATTAGE, TYPE (bulb or TUBE) , and any and all other relevent information to the topic. It would be great if we could even get some pics of your LIGHTING set ups! I believe this would be great if people participate as it would provide an array of possible set ups and give people some confidence in there lighting. Especially if we got some senior members to post here.

Thanks,
-John

well i dont have any pics because im on my ladies computer, but ill list it with an example.

i have a 18'' reptisun 5.0 tube across the top.
i have two 60 watt regular household bulbs.
and one 40 watt household bulb.

the reptisun is on a slight diagonal across the top, i say less then 15 degrees from the middle. and he can get about 5.25 inches away from it.

the basking bulb (60 watt) is on the right side close enough to get the temp 91 degrees.

the other two are not for basking but more for illuminating the enclosure.

the other 60 watt is in the front facing the middle of the cage on an angle so

that where the center of light hits, its 76 degrees.

the 40 watt is on the left side facing the center top so that more of the topish area is lit up and its general temp is about 78 degrees.

im going to get a 24'' once i get home from school in a week or so, but ive been away for a awhile so i havent had the time. i wasnt going to make a trip from ohio just for that. plus i think it does just fine.

Panther chameleon, adult male.
24" ReptiGlo 5.0 or 8.0 tube (depends on what's in the store the day I buy)
40-100 watt regular old style light bulb for heat (wattage is 40 in summer, 60 in Fall or Spring and 100 in Winter, due to ambient changes)
Both bulbs are on top of cage, in close proximity, so that when basking for heat he gets UVB (his preferred basking spot is 5-8" from the UVB)
No glass, no plastic and no mesh (just wide screen) between cham and bulbs

Panthers and veileds all have;
48" reptisuns, 48" grow lights, and one 40 watt house bulb.
One panther has a 100 watt mercury vapor by Zoomed.
The chameleon room glows during the day.

panthers and veileds

24" reptisun 5.0 and 48" 10.0
48" plant light for enclosures with live plants
basking 65-75 watts with plenty of room in between light and cham to prevent burns

veiled chameleon
exo terra 5.0 tube (when my 6 months is up, i'll get a reptisun)
75 watt basking bulb

basking bulb at back, tube on side

Panthers
UVB via ReptiGlo 5.0 or 8.0 or 10.0 or or ReptiSun 5.0, lengths vary (some span multiple cages)
Household incandescent light bulbs for heat (wattage varies according to cage, gender and time of year/ambient - 20watt -60 watt on females, 40 - 60 on males)
Daylight/plant grow tubes on some cages (new addition, to see if I can not kill another hybiscus)

All lights on top of the cage, positioned near the back usually. The heat bulb in the back corner (allows for greatest possible gradient)

Great thread. It helps new users to see what other people are actually doing. Giving me some great idea's before I hit "checkout" today.

Glad to see some one is using this thread to get ideas that was the main purpose of this thread.

I currently house a Male Veiled with an 24" Repti Glo 10.0, a Neodynium Basking Spot lamp from Exo Terra as recommended by exoterra, and a Repti Glo 2.0 24" using an Exo Terra Light Cycle Unit which simulates Dusk and Dawn on a 12 hour day cycle i Also use a 75w Moonlight Bulb by Exo Terra Because it is ASS:eek: cold in my house.

yeah but so far it heats the encloser to about 65-68 at night but yeah i might just look into getting a nice heat emitter (ceramic)maybe even an infrared? im doing some shopping today so maybe

HA HA HA HA HA
Hm. I suspect there are some things not on the recommended plant list :)

I've never before considered how my chameleon room might appear from the outside - considering where I live, maybe I should!

"Excuse me ma'am, we have a warrant to check your house, your electricity bills are skyrocketing."

"They're just chameleons!"
