I have a flap necked cham and unfortunitly I am learning as I go which I am seeing quickly is BAD!! I have spent alot of time online learning and correcting problems. I just seen a post about cham sleeping during the day and I'm wondering if all lights are supposed to be turned off at night? I've only been shutting off the basking light not the UVB? Help, I would like to keep my cham heathy and happy, he is so sweet, aprox 6 months old I guess, had him for 1 week, thanks for any imput!!

Turn off both the basking and UVB lights at night. Chameleons need to sleep at night and if the UVB light is left on, the sleep cycle will be disturbed and possibly leading to health problems.

Thank you, that explains part of his issues, I hate pet stores, (well thats stereotyping-not all pet stores) This is the best thing I've found for help and education, I'm very thankful!! Thank u for your time and knowledge!!

Questions are a good thing. And I am sure your flapneck will appreciate you asking as many questions as possible.

I know he's probably getting his first real nights sleep in a week, I feel terrible, but he will be very happy very soon know that I've found this site!!!

The only thing you might need at night is a moonlight or heat lamp that will provide a bit of warmth if it gets too cold for your chameleon at night.

This is true, but some people get a particularly cold room if the heating in their house is not evenly distributed. One night I woke up to 55 degree temperatures and realized that I better get some warmth on the chameleon. I just turned on the heat lamp with it facing obliquely to the perch areas. We have some odd temperature extremes in south Texas. One day it will be 90 degrees in the middle of winter and the very same night it will drop to the 40s. Difficult to keep on top of the central air control when that occurs in the middle of the night.

Thanks, I live in fl and we do get some weird temp changes but I have a digital thermostat with a max min set so if it drops below a certain temp the heat comes on and if it gets too warm the ac kicks on
