lighting question

Ok so i see my sunglo 150w spot light puts off uva rays, can i use a normal incandescent spot light bulb in substitute for this like something gotten at walmart or lowes? i had someone tell me its fine to use one from wallmart is why im asking

I use regular incandescent bulbs in a hood along with Repti-sun 5.0 UVB tube lights. Chose the wattage of the inscandescent by the temperature it produces in the basking area.

Ok guys i need help pretty quick, im on my way to get my new uvb bulb and fixture. A guy at my most trusted pet store said because my encloser is 4' tall i should look into the power sun uvb bulb as he says they are much better and penetrate much farther, but it is a $75 bulb.....


let me know what i should do, or is a reptisun 5.0 good enouph....

Reptisun 5.0 is a better bulb in my opinion. it is pretty much the standard everyone uses here. I have 3, 4' enclosures and use 24" Reptisun 5.0 in all of them. no need to spend the extra $$$$. LLLreptile has them for $13.99

just the top is metal screen, the rest is special screen that cant tear...

so is this bulb better though that hes recommending, im going with a reptisun 5.0 i just want to know

Do not buy the power sun! My cages are 4 feet tall and I use the Reptisun 5.0 tubes. Do not buy the compacts 5.0 either. Just the linear tube lamp.

It may be better for other applications. As far as Chameleons are concerned. The reptisun 5 is they way to go. It provides the right amount of UV needed.

Better?........ What is best is the right amount of UVB. What has been a tried and true way is to use the 5.0 on top of the cage. Place a basking area for the cham about 6-8 inches from the top of the cage and you will do just fine.

The walmart one is fine. Just make sure it accepts the correct size tube.

Make sure that the fixture buy does not have a plastic cover bewteen the lamp and your cham. You can buy a fixture with plastic, just remove it before use. UVB does not go through plastic.
