Light period syncronisation?

My wife just came down from the snake room saying she'd seen one of my Vieleds trying to sleep while the lights are on. She suggested that "it'd be dark by now where they come from" Now I knew about the twelve hour photo period but I hadn't aimed to get it in sync with Saudi! lol So it's been lights off at about eleven at night and on again at about eleven in the morning. The more I think about it the more I think maybe she's right actually. Maybe I should aim for more eight till eight? I'm in the UK.....

I wouldnt think so unless she is WC and you just recently got her. Sleeping during the day or when lights are on can be a sign of illness..

time zone from where they are native should have zero impact on their sleeping patterns.

maybe hes just tired....

hopefully hes not sick.

i see chams close their eyes when theyre basking or if its misting on them but not otherwise unless theyre sleeping

No she's not wild caught but she is sick unfortunately. I've been treating her for an absys on her nose :( It looks like the Baytrill prescribed by the vet isn't helping so I'm back at the vets for the third time on friday. She seems very well in her self though surprisingly. She's very active, alert and hungry. Hopefully the vet can sort out another antibiotic that'll work.....

Feebo, maybe filling out the "How to ask for help" form could shed some more light on this?

I keep a chameleon from Madagascar and one from Kenya, Im in NC, and mine sleep just fine;)

Hopefully its just the problem that you are already treating for, and it will go away with the illness.
It couldnt hurt to fill it out and get some opinions on the matter though.:)

I'd be happy to fill out a form :) Not that I can remember how that's done... lol

Hahaha
I got you Feebo!

Just "reply" to this post, and edit in your answers;)

Okeedoke :)
Veiled chameleon
female I think
In my care for a couple of months or so (this problem started immedeately)
She's toward the juvenile end of juvenile/sub adult
No regular handling at all yet. I have handled her in order to treat her and move her ect though.
Food wise she's gets fed every day with a day missed now and then. She and my male will get fifteen to twenty waxworms on one day, then a similar number of black/brown crickets on a different day. I also use Ethiopian crickets. Sometimes a small handful of mealworms or giant mealworms (only ever three or four of those each at a time) I also keep an eye out for available Soldier/Calci worms and buy when I can. I've recently started three or four species of fruit beetle off in order to use the grubs once they get going. I suppliment with a calcium+vitamin powder I forget the name of which apparently is enough on it's own given daily.
She has a dripper which I fill whenever I'm in the snake room, usually six or seven times a day and I see them both drinking regularly. I mist once or twice a day. My chams are in three foot Herptek plastic vivariums. Plenty of ventilation. Three foot long, two and a half foot deep, two foot tall (ish)
The vivs are chest height off the ground in a low traffic warm snake room.
Never tested for parasites. Poo is like wet play dough and consists of a urate componant and a solid fecal deposit. They must go all the time because there's no shortage of poo.
Twelve hour photo period, UV lighting (I'll need to check on make)
Early to mid nineties F at the warm end, mid to low eighties cool end.
Fig plants which are largely ignored
Humidity wise I don't trust my digital hygrometers at all. Neither do I trust ANY dial hygrometer I've ever seen/used. I spray, it gets humid, gets less humid.... then I spray again before it's dry.

The lump looks like a great big pimple. It had imitially responded well to the Baytrill but has started to get bigger again in the last few days so I'm back at the vets on friday morning.....

Well, lights off at 11 is pretty late, if she's in bed by the time the sun goes down at 7ish, that wouldn't surprise me at all. I'd set your schedule to match the daylight hours more naturally, so maybe 7-7.

Do you use night lights in your snake room?
If so, those lights could be keeping the cham awake.

On a side note, 2' vertical space is quite cramped for a chameleon.;)

Yeah as soon as my wife pointed that out I thought I'd change my light times in there. I'll do that right away. They've JUST been moved out of much smaller plastic vivs that they'd been in since they were tiny. I am aware that these herptek's aren't a permenant solution. I think I'll be making thier final homes ! I'm going to need to give them the absolute maximum I possibly can from what I read.....

My cham starts to yawn at around 7ish, and his light turns off at around 8. and they are on at 730. However I sometimes wake him up at 530am for a moment when I leave the hose.

No night lights no, they get a good dark quiet room at night. Time's have been adjusted and hopefully the vet can help with her tommorrow. She didn't eat yesterday and although she's obviously not half done or anything I'm eager to get to the vets!
