So this isn't exactly for chameleons or reptiles in general but does have to do with various feeder insects and possible other insects I may or may not get... I don't know if this belongs in a different section though so as usual feel free to move mods ^^.

So I was wondering if there is a license or permit provide by Fish and Game or something, that would help me possibly import insects and maybe sell to people in the US insects that would be restricted/illegal otherwise? I have tried to figuring it out on their website. But the legal jargon did not help me understand if there was an actual form I should look at and which one may help. The last couple ones I looked at looked like they might have worked but otherwise it didn't show anything promising .____.

I would love to really start working with stranger insects. And being able to provide it to a few forum members that I trusted to not only take good care of them but also not just release them if they could technically be plant destructive? If I have to pay several hundred dollars annually I am ok with this.

Any info would be great ^^ so much love to you guys <3

You can do this for sure. I know of a few people that do this for mantid species. I think the biggest hurdle here, if I remember my entomologist friend's words correctly, there are not many people that will collect for you. So many people that do this seriously get the permits to enter the country of origin and collect. I actually just read a story about a younger guy doing this in Europe I think. He travels three times a year and field collects. Maybe @nick barta would have more info on this.

I have a couple people, stationed around that would likely collect... I think 2-3 at most. But it would cost a lot. It would be worth it in the long run. I want to get into some heavy hitters as far as complicated breeders/keepers and I am SUPER excited to do this. Honestly I have wanted to do entomology of some sort since I was 8 or so, it just became less of a reality when school became less able for me. Now I know school is not the only way to study the guys. I would be able to write books and articles about keeping and raising them properly. And sell off excess. I would likely start with the harder species in the US.

That's an awesome goal. I hope you can make it happen. What species are you interested in here?

I know I want some predatory beetles, there was a very specific and aggressive species I was looking at that is a US native species called the warrior beetle, might look at some tiger beetles. I want to work with some general species that most people know as whip spiders. Though I want to work with one of the giant species. I want to look at some harvestmen probably go for an ornamental variety. Definitely get back in scarabs and maybe some of the rhino/stag beetles. There is a species of predatory beetles that I think can only be found across international borders but I would love to have them, they hunt in pack formations and they are part of the snail eating beetle, their mannerisms amaze me... I would love to get some leaf cutter ants but not unless I got an outdoor enclosure to keep the insects in...And then of course the jumping spiders.. though I likely couldn't get my favorite.
 
From the sounds of it, down the road I may need to get a CITES permit. Need to make sure of what's on the threatened species list for insects. Otherwise I may just need a customs permit and an import/export one.

Does anyone have any idea how expensive these are roughly? (Not currently on a device where looking it up would be easy)

Yes he goes to Asia 3 times a year to collect new specimens he has alot of insects.
 
If I get the license/permit that also includes them, I will gladly provide them XD honestly, I would love to work with them again and figure them out down to a science
