Current Problem -
Hi,
i got Leonitus one week ago as a gift.
i've had female chameleons before but he's a HE.
im unsure why he isnt eating on his own.
He looks a few months old. Hes not color changing as much and when he does attempt to eat it is SUUUPER SLOWWW and doesnt shoot his tongue, AT ALL!
he kinda clips the insect. I havent seen him eat in three days by himself. :( im worried, any suggestions?

Hello.

I would stop holding him so much, he needs to settle into his home.

Feeding- He should be getting as many crickets as he can eat a day. Superworms and waxworms are treat bugs, not daily staple bugs.

Supplements- you should be dusting with a calcium without d3 every feeding, a calcium with d3 twice a month, and a multivitamin twice amonth.

Misting- He should be misted about 4-6 times a day for a minute or two at a time.

Lighting-He should have one uvb bulb and one basking bulb, NOT RED bulbs. the basking bulb can be a regular house bulb (not the coil kind) and he should not have any lights on at night, as they need total darkness to sleep.

Plants- im hoping you have more than just that in the cage. He needs alot of vines and sticks to climb on.

chams dont change colors al the time. in fact, they only change when basking, sleeping, or are angry/stressed.

his tongue issue could be because hes not being suppemented properly and because hes not being misted enough.

Also, he needs alot more branches and vines in that cage, as he wont feel safe in there, and that could be causing the lack of eating too.
