Leaf litter

Doing my final planing for my large tank. 55 gal. I figure 1.4. but here is what I was wondering. I hear leaf litter is good and replicates the natural environment (I know it has to be sterilized), but does it make it to hard to see diggings when the femal lays eggs? Has anyone ever left the eggs in and had them hatch naturally? I would incubate them but why do they not hatch in a natural tank? too moist? and pill bugs and springtails wont hurt the eggs if I dont get to them immediatly, right?

People have had them hatch in the cage, its just, if you did, you would want to check the cage a lot for babies, they would most likelly go straight to the top screen of the cage, you have to get them out immediatly though, before they become a snack.
