Her mouth is NOT normal in color by any way, shape or form. When we say lime green we literally mean LIME green, as in really bright green, basically neon green, not normal, not "yellowish".. LIME NEON green. The vet we brought her to is very knowledgeable and was extremely excited to work with a panther chameleon. In fact he was really happy we brought her in and even said it's always awesome to see people owning animals like this actually take care of them. Any good vet, or even a human's doctor, will look at a symptom, think about what it may be, and hopefully be able to rule something out. He never said "Layla definitely has liver disease" he said the coloring was a symptom and he wanted to take an x-ray to help him figure out what is wrong with her. Like we said before, she is too small to take blood samples, even in her tail, so that option is out of our control.
The meds are Metronidazole, which she gets 0.01 mL once every other day, the other is Calorad Supplement, in which she gets 0.02 mL every day once a day. One was to help prevent liver disease and the other I cannot remember what it was for to be honest. Our appointment was at 10 am and we didn't leave the vet till 1 pm.. we were exhausted and just wanted to get out of there. And after dropping $300 on a vet visit my mind was not exactly clear.
As for the x-rays we didn't get a chance to see them. He had mentioned before the x-ray he would show us so we could see the eggs and I completely forgot at the end of the day, due to what I just said in the previous paragraph. The vet was an extremely smart and enthusiastic exotic pet vet here in NJ and was recommended by our other vet (our dog's vet). I do not think he is just "assuming" anything in regard to the eggs or possible liver disease. In my opinion he was being a very good vet who was trying to help us get to the bottom of some things. We have a follow up appointment in 2 weeks after her meds are done.
I have only seen her at the bottom of the plant once since we have had her but she was really just walking around on her vines. She does not seem to be eating or drinking any differently. She has always been an active chameleon and walks all over the place all day. She's moving around a lot right now, as I type this, but towards the top of the cage. We asked if he could see in the x-ray how many eggs were in her and he said that he really couldn't tell because it just looked like a little sack filled with tiny grapes.
We don't think she is egg bound, to be honest. I think Jannb is right... she must not be ready to lay yet. She really honestly doesn't even look gravid to us. You can't see any eggs or "marble" looking bumps around her tummy, or even feel them as of yet, so they really must've just formed recently.
