Laying Female stuck in a bad spot

My female quad has tunneled down beside the catch basin that is under the mister head. You can see her head in the corner. I don't know where she is in the laying process but I have a feeling she is finished.

I suspect she has covered up the hole she made along the wall to get to the corner she is. I think she can escape out the top but it might be tight--I don't want to bother her too much.

What should I do? Wait? How long?

She finished laying and got herself out of her hole. I doubt any of the 17 eggs are fertile, though.

Why do you think the eggs are not fertile?

Remember we talked about that male I have with all the problems? He had issues with his hind legs and now with respiratory failure?

I tried to get this female bred to that male. I never saw a breeding although she certainly did everything possible to make it happen. They stayed together for days at a time and would perch very close together so I hoped I had just missed the breeding.

The eggs just didn't look right. They seemed thinner than they should be. Some had slightly flattened sides. Some were really small. They had a lot in common with the gracilior's second clutch of eggs that all went bad. (Her first clutch hatched two weeks ago. She was gravid when imported.) They are in the incubator just in case I'm wrong.

By the way, I took your suggestion with the male with respiratory failure. The vet was happy to try anything even if she, like your vet, didn't think infection was the problem. He seems to have perked up. He is eating well--he only stopped eating when he couldn't afford to stop breathing long enough to swallow. I haven't seen an episode since his 5-day treatment of Baytril. I'm still feeding him small food so he can swallow really easily. The vet will do a necropsy when he eventually dies, which I hope is a long long time away. I'm not feeling very optimistic about him, but I do really like him and will do whatever I can to keep him going. He's such a trooper dealing with all his health crises since he was taken from the wild. Any other animal would have been long dead. My vet is really surprised he is still alive. I'll get a weight on him today, but he looks like he's gained weight since I took him in for his appointment to be euthanized. I'm not expecting him to carry on his genes, but I would really like to try. I'll try again with this female and if I don't get a breeding when she is receptive, I might breed her to another male. I've been away for a couple of days and was meaning to send you a message today to let you know the outcome.

Well I am glad he is still around, and doing better. I still don't know why, when the have no signs of a uri, the the baytril brings them out of it.

I had forgotten this way the girl he was with, so I am thinking you are most likely correct that the eggs are infertile, but as you are doing, I always incubate them and hope.

How are the babies doing? I would love more pictures. I have hardly been on the forums, I am studying for a series of test. Passed the first, only three more to go!! Keep your fingers crossed.

I'll try to get some pictures up today in the Photography forum.

Thanks for your suggestion--it was very timely since I had already made an appointment to euthanize and a necropsy when I spoke to you. He's a very lucky chameleon! As you know, he is my "Trooper" and I really want to do right by him whether I get to use his genes or not, and I sure want to use his genes!
