Just got the results from the Vet and they say Larry has Giardia. And bacteria in his system. Anyone now how and why he would have gotten this? all of his water is distilled.

What pets do you have other than chameleons? Look at the giardia hosts and think of how the cham could have come into contact with something contaminated by them. Could be another pet, could be that you put something in his cage like a branch that a bird pooped on and then wasn't disinfected enough. I am no expert, that was just my initial thought.

We just got back from the vet and off the phone with the breeder. Apparently Giardia is not just water born as I had thought. It is a type of protoza that is pretty much everywhere. He put Larry on a antibiotic that will treatit in just a few days. It's funny the vet said that sometimes they start to eat again right after they start the meds and that is exactly what Larry did.

On a side note.... I have had Larry since he was 2 1/2 months old and he has never flarred, hissed or gotten mad. Today he tried to eat the vets hand so I told the vet to let me hold him and as soon as I did, he calmed down and let the vet inspect him. I for sure now know that they do know who their owners are.

Glad he's ok. I think vets can sometimes handle our chams a bit different/rougher than we would since they need to be restrained and inspected. Whereas we treat them like little porcelain dolls. I think mine doesn't necessarily know me, but she knows she'll be alright when she's picked up by putting a finger under her front then raised, and having no choice but to walk onto it. That she will tolerate, but she won't stand for being grabbed.

Will do Jann... He has a mistking, and I mist him.

Larry is a sweet heart he never cares what I do and is always wanting to come hang out with me. Vito, my nosy, wants nothing to do with anything besides his food. I swear if I put 40 crickets in there, he would eat all of them.

Does anyone know if it matters that I feed Larry before or after I give him his antibiotics? After the breeder and I thought for sure it wasn't a parasite, and it was, I am paranoid.
