looks great inside :D

Is there screen only at the top?

deff more of a jungle then mine is right now.. Are those branches still green (fresh cut)? I was worried to use fresh stuff b/c of leaching, is it ok with the chams? If it is what type of trees should I be lookin for?

You shouldn't use live branches, the sap can be deadly. You should also bake the branches and wash them in a 1:10 bleach: water solution with a GOOD rinse to get rid of germies and what not. You should take the lights out so he doesn't burn himself. You should also get another bulb as they don't associate red with basking.

His cage is glass because he lives in the uk where it is much more difficult to keep up temps and humidity. In most parts of the us, screen is best.

branches had dried, washed them in a bath with boiling water and bleach followed by a good hosing down in the garden.

I may be wrong because I am using my phone to look at the picture but is the light inside the cage? One more thing is missing from the picture... Karma is not in it =]

yes the light is in the cage im looking to cut a hole in the top when i have a lamp in monday
this is as the viv was sold to me in the shop....

what sort of heat lamp should i get, what about the uv strip light does that need to be outside too?
really want to keep it looking tidy as it is in my dining room

The uvb needs to be outside so he doesn't get burned. I just use a plain jane clip round dome hood thing. They're like 6 dollars over here.

sorry to be a pain but if the uv and heat lamps need to be outside the top of the viv is going to be really open/exposed, how do i keep the humidity/heat in?

Keep most of the top solid, but cut out sections of the wood to fit the fixtures in and cover them in screen. Chameleons need air circulation anyways, so an extra vent here or there is a good thing.

and the next question.......

regarding the heat lamp as its there to keep the heat (duh) this means the light is always on, does karma not need darkness at any point? or should i get a ceramic mat for the night time?

its way to cold in the uk to switch it all off i'd be waking up to an ice cube....

If you are using a fluorescent tube light for UVB, that isn't as much a burn threat as long as the cham can't climb on the fixture or the bulb itself. You don't want any type of shield between the cham and the bulb as it may block the UV.

Watch the temps inside the cage...a mostly sealed solid sided cage can get warmer than you might want depending on the wattage of the basking spot. And, some venting is a good thing. If you really need some heat at night try a low powered ceramic heat emitter instead of a heat bulb that produces visible light. Chams do see full color and it could keep him from sleeping enough. Chams need at least a 10 degree drop in temp at night, so check the temps carefully. If you only need to raise the general cage temp a few degrees at night possibly a terrarium heat mat mounted down low on the cage back might do the trick instead of a heat emitter.

That's the first time I've heard this.... Have you measured the temperatures beside the UV? What temperature is dangerous exactly? I don't believe i'm the only one who keeps them on the inside. The UVb level is going to be greatly reduced by keeping it outside the cage also.

When I created a thread about my first Chameleon cage a while a go another keeper said they asked their vet if it was ok to keep their fluorescent tube UVb light inside and they said it was.

A UVB tube does not get hot enough to burn. Most keep them outside the cage. Touch the bulb when its been running for a while. If its only warm it can be inside. I don't see an issue at all.
