[/COLOR]Chameleon Info:•Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? Panther , Male, I have had him about 4 months. He is 5 months.

•Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? He just started come out to me so I have handled him for the last 2 days for about 1 minute. He climbs to the top of the door on his cage and climbs in my hand. I put him back in and he comes right back.

•Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? I feed dubias and Crickets (5/8" to 3/4"). I feed about 7 crickets and about 3 mid size dubias. I gutload with greens, oranges, apples, carrots, squash, strawberries. All blended then frozen and thawed before offered. Fluckers dry gutload in bins as well.

•Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Exo-terra Calcium every feed, Rep-cal Calcium W/D3 twice a month, Rep-cal Herptivite twice a month.

•Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? I use a mist king going off about 4 times a day. Misting about 7 minutes at a time. I did adjust the times a little longer day before yesterday because his eyes looked a little sunk in to me. I also use a dripper running all day. I did "make him drink the other day by moving the dripper to where the water dropped to the tip of his mouth. He did drink. Eyes looked a little better yesterday.

•Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? The color looks normal in his droppings. The urine was a very light yellow/ orange. Not dark orange at all. He would usually drop everyday but for the past week he has done it about every other day. He didnt do anything yesterday, but did the day before. He has not been tested for parasites.

•History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. He does move around the cage alot, He spends alot of time on the screen. Does not look weak or anything like that. I did add some biovines in his cage the other day. Other than that his cage is the same, I did relocate his cage since I rearranged the room.

Cage Info:•Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? All Screen cage, 16x16x30

•Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Im using Reptisun 5.0 24" I believe. Lights on at 7a off at 8p. a zoomed Basking light with regular house bulb, 60 watt.

•Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? Basking is about 81-87, this changes depending on AC, outside temps and misting. The bottom is about 73-78. Overnight temp is about 70+ (never 60's) I have two thermo and Humidity guages.

•Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Between 40%-60%. I have a schefflera and a mist king. I measure with a homedepot guage.

•Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? schefflera and outside stucks, just added biovines.
•Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? There is a vent located above the cage on the ceiling. The air DOES NOT blow directly on the cage. The vints have been closed that are facing the cage. No high traffic. I leave from 7:30 to 6pm weekdays. He is home alone mostly. The cage sits on a stand so the top of the cage is almost 6' from the ground.
•Location - Where are you geographically located? Texas.

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. He is not eating like he used to. I could hand feed him, he does not do this anymore, for the past 2 weeks. He looks a little dehydrated, Im gone most of the time but i did force drink him the other day. He has been leaving food in his cage. Also this morning I heard a crunch from his cage. Thought he might have ate a dubia but he actually bit one of the sticks in his cage. He broke it off and was eating it. I could not get it out his mouth. I tried but was only able to get some out. This also worries me.

My guy went through a stage around that age, where he seemed to like to bite branches, sometimes chewing them up and eating them ;/

I removed anything around him that was small enough to be bitten off.

I would try a shower chamber on Koopa. A good long shower will get him to drink.

Ive found that my panther does not like mist, and will not drink from it.

I would suggest having your nozzles hit a pothos, or other high up plant, and have that drip down on him, creating a rain effect. This should promote drinking more often.

A good rain shower either in the actual shower, or via a hand sprayer once a week should ensure he stays hydrated.

Any chance of a pic?

He's at a tricky age....it seems like at 5 to 7 months we start seeing stories of changes in personality and eating habits. I wouldn't worry about him not eating as much. He's not growing at the fabulous rate he was earlier so it's natural for him to slow down.

Moving the dripper so it hit him on the head was a good idea. I'd do that every day if I were you.

Does your dripper run when the mistking is misting? I think some chameleons need that "rainstorm" to get them in the mood to drink and if the dripper is running at the same time as the mist, they'll just see that as "more rain" and be more inclined to drink from it.

That's just me psychoanalyzing reptiles, so probably not right. But it does seem to fit my experience which is that the dripper is more successful if it's dripping while the cage is still soaked from the misting.

The stick chewing I have noticed on my panthers is a sign of maybe lack of minerals in his diet . Maybe add more to your dry gut load like bee pollon ect. and switch up your gut load every week so he dosnt get bored eatting the same cricket and Dubia flavor every week it seems to keep my crew eatting well when before I started doing this I would get hunger strikes also it allows for different vitamins and minerals for him... Also I hand drip all my crew one to two times a week with a hand mister with ozarka spring water which seems to have natural minerals in it and seems to help to me ...... Also if he is seeming dehydrated give him a shower a few times a week by placing a plant in the shower setting the water at room temp and facing the shower head at the wall so he gets a nice in direct mist for about 30 to 45 min. Hope some of this helps.

Thanks for the reply Solid, I will get a pic of him this evening. I honestly was scared of the shower thing. He is just now getting used to me and I didnt want to frighten him even more. I will do what I have to tho. I did read on how to shower them with warm water on a fake plant. Im thinking about getting some worms to boost his hydration. I will post pics later to show you guys. He usually eats right away but when I come home and all but one cricket/dubias is left just worries me.

Thanks for the reply, I have dripped on his nose mouth area for the past two days and he does drink. I will continue to do this until I see all white Pee. The dripper drips all day until its either empty (im usually home by this time) or I take it off right before lights out. I will try to adjust the mister to a leaf or something to get bigger drips. I actually was avoiding this because I use the feeding cup and I didnt want to drown the dubias/crickets. Most of the crickets jump out anyway and hand on the screen..

Good info lee. I will get back over to sandras blogs and check out some more gutload options. Where can i get bee pollon? I am willing to do anything to make sure he gets what he needs. I happy he is getting used to me. I think he wants more room so a bigger cage is a must real soon! Thanks for the reply buddy!

I think the worms are a great idea, like hornworms.

I agree with Texas Ranger as well, look into a different dry gutload, I like cricket crack. Tiki Tiki sells it, and the flukers dry stuff is...well its crap to be honest. ;) Then throw in random fresh veggies and fruits every so often.

https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/215-oxalic-acid-content-vegetables.html

Im sure your guy will be fine. ;)

I will try that cricket crack as well, I knew fluckers was garbage, it was the only thing I can get locally. I will order some though. Do you guys think the way im gutloading is ok. I blend up everything and put it in some small glad cups and freeze them. Then I unthaw it under water or just in the sink and feed to my dubias and crickets. They seem to eat it with no problems. I also throw in some fresh oranges and apples for hydration. I stopped using the fluckers orange cubes.

try some horns and silks. They are loaded with liquid. When they bite into them it squirts all over. I honestly have to look away cause it is gross and I just don't like to see it but I know it is part of owning them. I wish they ate plants! Anyways, I have a chameleon I took in in February. He is a terrible drinker and it is really frustrating. I feed him lots of silks and horns and his urate is always white. I am attributing it to the feeders. His eyes are not sunken in, but a little saggy, but they have always been that way.

Ok guys I got home and broke of some off those sticks he can bite off. I was able to get some pics of him and his stool for today. Let me know what you guys think....

He looks good man. I would try and get some small hornworms and give him a couple a day to start off. Keep them in the fridge a day at a time to keep them from growing too big too fast and they will last you a while. Buy them small. It wil make a big difference. I have moths coming out now but it will be a while before I have worms so I would just get one cup of 25 - 50 smalls for now and i will get you some after those are gone. You dont want him to get addicted to the hornworms so keep it to 3-4 a week and it will keep him hydrated. Switch it up with silks every now and then. I do this on a regular basis with all my panthers especially the females and it really helps with hydration for tricky drinkers. Greatlakes has some good ones. I just got a bunch from them.
