Keeping Baby Veileds Together

Chase

Chameleon Enthusiast
Hello,
I was wondering, how long can Veileds stay together? One Male, One Female.

Thanks,
LPR08

Hey,
I kept mine together for about 2 months before I had to get more cages. So until they are 3 1/2 months in my experience.;)

Well, I read somewhere that it can be for about 4-5 months. So... You were close :D

No...this, as with chameleons in general is not an exact science. The earlier you can get them into their own cages usually the better. Less likely to have injuries or fights and there's no competition for food. Remember they are solitary creatures so in their own cages they will be less stressed. Don't ask a question, get an answer then tell them they are wrong.

Umm, I didn't? I was just saying I read somewhere that it can be up to 4-5 months. Calm down, I wasn't saying it to Teresa to mean they were wrong.

Dude I'm calm, I just found your response to Teresa to be quite rude. Guess I took it the wrong way. Common problem with the internet, can't convey tone very well.

Very true. I was just saying, you must have tooken it wrong because I'm not going to ask a question, and be like dude, you're wrong! I didn't mean it in a rude way, but if you and Teresa took it to be rude, I apologize.

Not to worry on my end. I am on a Rottweiler forum and they are more cut throat than cham people. I really enjoy the cham forum apposed to the Rottie forum.;)

I would not keep them together.
To me it only makes sense if you are raising a lot of babies to sell and it is a space issue.
If you only have two chameleons, why would you not separate them?
They do much better on their own right off the bat.
If it were feasible, large clutches should be separated as well.

I actually have 2 females in a cage cage together, and 1 of my males..but now there all seperate due to them being gravid... but once thats over you can house them all back together..I've read this in numerious Cham Books! They have never once tried to fight eachother. There all very tame to.

No one should consider the above quote to be an option with veileds.
It is a terrible practice and shows no understanding of the needs of these animals, or any ability at all
to read or recognize when they are stressed.

Kshook,
I would love if you would please list the numerous books you read this in.

I agreee with Brad on all counts. If you are aquiring/owning just a few, keeping them separate is best practice. Breeders that have many babies would generally keep them together longer as it is impossible to maintain say "69" separate cages. But not past 3-4 months. Keeping them together long term would be left up to the very experienced keeper that knows what to watch for as far as stress and illness.
