keep a pair of veildys together and mesh question

If my enclosure is approx 20 cubic feet is size with multiple baskin spots, branches, trees and so on....would I be able to keep a pair of veildies together year round or would I have to seperate them most of the time?

I have had veileds in the past but always kept them seperate until breeding season. Moved into a new place and would really like one large enclosure versus 2 smaller ones.

Also. What is the prefered mesh? I went to home depot and they had plstic chicken wire, something called "hardware cloth" which was black plastic 1/2" mesh, and then a bunch of metal stuff. Obvioulsy I would want to use something coated in plastic to protect the guys feet but which one should I go with? I would prefer not to use window screen since i like to be able to tie things to the sides without jackin up the screen to much.

The hardware cloth would be your best option I believe.

As for housing the two together... If you were there to constantly observe the behavior of the chams, and make sure that the cohabitation is going well, then it may work. But I have a feeling the attempt would fail. Knowing the labedo of most male veileds, I would imagine that the female would end up being mated to the point of exhaustion. I wouldn't recommend doing unless, like I said, you were around to observe a lot, and you are experienced enough with chams tow how to identify stress behaviors, and know when to call it quits and separate them. 20 cubic feet may be just way too small for this sort of thing. I wouldn't try it without a HUGE walk in enclosure. I also imagine that it would depend on the individual chams. Some may tolerate it fine, while others may not tolerate another cham in the area.

For your purposes of space efficiency I would discourage this. Just use two cages, a lot easier.

I have edited this like 20 tmies... but I just did the math and 20 cu feet is just a little bit bigger than one 2'x2'x4' cage, which is the recommend size for 1 male veiled. Not do-able.

Ya, at first i was like wow 20 cubic feet is alot! but then i thought 2x2x4 cage = 16 cubic feet. Personally i wouldent house veilds together in anything less than a large greenhouse outside or a spare, well planted bedroom. That way they have enough room to not see each other for days on end if they wanted to.

I think he was thinking of sq ft not cubic, but i might be wrong, not saying that still isn't that big that's only like 4.4' x 4.4'. Still small maybe he could have that, and a divider thats still like having one big cage no...

how old are the vields? my zoology teacher used to keep his male veiled in a similar sized cage, and the females had a little jungle section in the room. They were not in a cage, but he made sure they were secure in that area, and got thier needs met. This only would only work if the females are older and more stable.
