Juvenile Veiled Chameleon: Free Roaming?

Today I let my chameleon free roam around in a room with lots of stuff to climb around on (not dirty) though and while he was on the carpet he had the blackest stripes I've ever seen, and to be honest he rarely gets stress lines or hisses, he didn't hiss this time like when i got my old camera out this is due to the fact the camera eye extends and it has a long charm string so i believe he thinks its an enemy chameleon (lol sounds weird but normally when reptiles do something its for a reason and thats the most logical thing i could think of.) but back to the normal topic do all chameleons normally fire up their colors on carpet or did he just not like the free roaming? i made sure to set my house to 75 degrees (heat) so it would be semi comfortable for him but what do u all think?

My veiled does the same thing when she is roaming, ESPECIALLY outside in the grass. I just assume its so they look "tough" to other creatures

Maybe but wouldn't they puff up then idk XD
The colors thing takes alot of research for us all to even guess what
the chameleon is feeling sometimes lol
