I have an approx. 10 week old cham and he is having his first shead (since i have had him) and im just wondering if im supposed to mist him as usual (2-3 times per day) and do i keep the humidity the same (50-60%)?

also how much should i be feeding him? i offer him a varity of meal worms crickets and silk worms and occasionally wax worms. when i first got him i was keeping food in his dish at all times, then he got constapated and grew very big fast. the pet store told me to only feed him every couple of days so i feed him every other day and he rushes to the dish and eats all of the food in like 5 mins. am i doing something wrong?

just so you know a little background, TD is not your typical cham. he loves to be held, he watches tv with me, i can hand feed him but usually dont. he likes to sit under his dripper, gets in his water dish to play it looks like and he explors all parts of his cage every day it seems like. he is very active!

if you could answer any of these questions it would be wonderful :)

thanks!

ps. in the time it took me to type this, TD ate 13 meal worms. is that normal?

You should mist him as usual, around 3 times per day.

The pet store does not know what they're talking about. Many of us have learned that the hard way. They frequently give out wrong information that is not good for the cham. He should be eating around 10-15 crickets per day at such a young age. As he gets older, he will need less. Are you using supplements with your feedings? He's eating all the crickets really fast because he's starving.

Thats great to hear! He does not puff up or show any stress signs, like changing to a darker color? If not, you may have gotten lucky. You should also try to hand feed every now and then. If the cham correlates your hand with food, it might help ensure that he stays friendly with you, which MIGHT be an issue in his "teenage" years.

Try not to use mealworms as a staple (main course meal) Its okay to feed him some, but variety is important. With every feeding I give my guy mostly crickets, with a few mealworms and maybe a waxworm. I am expanding this menu in the near future, though. :)

Misting should be kept normal, however you want to give the skin a chance to dry out and lift off, monitor his progress, when my cham sheds i usually give him a chance to crack the skin a little at his backbone, then i mist him really good in the morning with luke warm water and make sure his enclosure is nice and wet, i let his dripper go for a good part of the day but dont mist him, then if he is making good progress i repeat in the next morning, but all chams are different, just keep him hydrated well and most the time the cham will do the rest....my cham usually takes a day or two to completely shed his skin. your Variety is awesome with his feeding, try to stay away from frequent mealworm feeding at his age, they can bind him up real good. Also make sure you use calcium w/out D3 for every feeding, and use Calcium w/D3 about 2 times a month. I also use Herptavite on occasion. Hope i could help a little

so i should feed him everyday? and yes i did get lucky he has never shown signs of stress besides when i put him outside (which i have not done since) and i dont normally use meal worms as his staple meal i only had 3 crickets and i felt like he needed more.

Yes, feed him every day. They usually LOVE being outside in the sun. If he turned darker outside it actually may have been because he was absorbing the sunlight. After a few minutes he should turn back to normal, and when he's older and shows more color, he should turn really bright and beautiful colors in the sun. (After absorbing sunlight, of course)
Do you any one know when his colors will start to come in?

Around 4 months ive heard is when they start to show a lot of color. My guy is almost 3 months and he is getting color quickly.

Thanks and i just saw him eat some of the shedded skin. should i allow himm to do that?

Ya alot of chams eat the skin, its normal :D My Veiled started showing some colors around 3 months, basic colors, then a shed came and it revealed some new improved colors and banding, Lambeau is around 4 1/2 months now and is showing outstanding colors for his age

he used his toung to get it and thanks brooklyn i can kind of see a dark and light pattern on his back and its getting more vivid so maybe were close :)

I am so glad to hear someone else has a non typical guy LOL Rango loves to be held and looks like he begs to be picked up( will stand on his hind legs when my daughter is close trying to reach for her.
Color wise he seems to get these great bright colors ( which he also gets when we take him out side)
He also loves to sit and watch tv with us usually sits on our shoulder or will hand on my daughters chest and play with her long hair ( he loves to twist it in his front hands?? and will pull on it but never tries to eat it or anything just plays with it LOL
