Just Picked Up My T. q quadricornis

Late this afternoon I picked up my Trioceros q. quadricornis boy.

He arrived from Cameroon about two weeks ago.

He's not happy with his new cage--too scary white. I hadn't appreciated how he might not be thrilled with all that white. I got home after dark, gave him a long misting and was happy to see him drinking. After he had a bit of time to settle into his new surroundings, I turned the lights off and added more greenery so he doesn't see a white floor. I have so much in there I had trouble closing the door! He's got two bushy umbrella trees and a little parlor palm. I had thought I wanted a bare floor for ease of cleaning, considering he's probably be loaded with parasites, but I think reducing his stress level is more important.

He has really pretty rosy tones to his sides. I hope he'll relax tomorrow.

I've attached a picture of The Dragon.

I have to tell you, when I got your email and that picture, my heart melted. Congrats. He is lovely. Looks better that any of the 20 my group received.:( We will have a great time watching out kids together.

Sorry I haven't called or texted pictures, because my phone is lost. Since I still have chicken pox I am not allowed out of the house. Some times 6 bedroom is 5 too many!!

I've been following some of this on another thread. I hope my purchase isn't one of those sales that have some of your group so upset. If it makes you feel any better, mine isn't very old, and I thought was never going to be part of any of the breeding group that you bought.

I am heart broken for you, especially since I probably unknowing contributed to it by innocently coming on this forum and raving about them and how nice they looked the day after they arrived. I had no idea how special that shipment was. I know your group includes some of the experts who the experts go to for advice, so their opinions on the whole thing carry a lot of weight. I hope it gets resolved to everyone's satisfaction. I wonder if shipping to the US, then on to your group was just too much stress considering their parasite load. I saw some of them and they looked really nice, but I saw them the day after they arrived in San Antonio, so the effects of their importation might not have shown up yet.

I'll get a weight on mine this morning and bounce a worming protocol off my vet. I know OldChamKeeper gave me a protocol, but I once killed an wonderful African Grey Parrot doing something absolutely everyone on the internet said was good for my bird (letting him chew chicken bones). One of the world's top avian vets went through a lot of heroics trying to save that bird, and in the end he died. So, please, no one be offended if I "check with my vet" some advice kindly given to me by an expert who probably has forgotten a lot more about chameleons than my vet ever knew or will know. I still want to get a fecal before I worm him so I know what I'm dealing with.

I am enamored with the species--they are so enduring with their big soft eyes. You'll be happy to know I want to join your little group to establish this species in the US. I might be driving boxes of eggs across the country for someone else to hatch. Hatchlings is where it gets pretty tricky for a novice, and this isn't the species to let a novice learn to raise hatchlings with.

He really looks good. The sun is up, but it is cloudy so I am leaving lights off to give him a bit of extra sleep after all the stress of getting him last night. I feel like a kid at Christmas, waiting for permission from my parents to go downstairs.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Thanks so much for your and people in your group's advice.
