Just need to vent.

I'm really getting frustrated right now. I don't like to go on here much and when I do I try not to make it a negative post about my rants and raves. Some of you may know that I run a Herpetological Society and Reptile Rescue in my area. Well the person who helps me run it is getting on my nerves and this isn't the first time they have done this. Whenever someone is wanting to give us an animal to find a new home I always try to share it with the person helping me run it all. Yet whenever I do share it they go behind my back and they try to rescue it personally and take all of the credit, even if it's closer to me than it is to them. I'm don't care who goes and gets the animal but the fact that I shared the emails between the person surrendering the animal to us they went and got their e-mail and are trying to make it so they can get the animal with out my knowledge and keep the thing as a pet. That is not why I started this. I didn't start this to go get animals and keep them. I try to find them proper homes!! We charge a small re-homing fee, just for a portion of what it cost to go get the animal and also for any additional vet care we provide for the animal, it all gets worked into the re-homing fee to help keep the rescue and society a float. They don't get that. They went and rescued about 5 animals from their area if not more and I didn't know a thing about it and then they ended up keeping every animal they rescued. Yet when I went to go rescue a Chameleon and a Savannah Monitor she went in and tried to get every reptile from that rescue not even having the proper setups. I don't go after every reptile out there just due to lack of space and supplies and depending on the size, I tell them I'll look around to see if someone is wanting one and then I send them in that direction. I just don't know. They went behind my back and took this rescue that is in a different state than they are and it's in the same state as I am and about an hour and a half away.. I appreciate all they do but they honestly don't do much they go out and get the animals and then decides to keep it. We got into an argument and they brought up that they have more money than I do etc. and acted like they did so much for the society. They haven't done really anything. at all. She got a few new members and that's all. No donations, no new add-ons to our society/rescue what so ever and they think they can do it all themselves. Well they can't if they don't do anything for it... They go on Craigslist and find people rehoming their animals and take them. That's about it.. I am so close to just closing the society and rescue.. I don't know what to do..

If your looking for advice.....mine to you is if they don't contribute anything to your rescue centre then if it's possible get ride of them....and you shouldn't shut it down there are slot of people out there who don't take care of there animals properly...though you can't take them all in you are doing a treat thing and should really keep it up I wish there were more people like you in this world.....trough be said they need it more then us people harm each other animals don't......I wish I could do what you do or even help you.....but I live in Canada......but all that aside I really think you should keep it up and if they aren't doing anything and they can be let go I would......


On another note no disrespect met but way can't this person keep them as pets as long as she/he eats all the costs.

Rescued is rescued, whether or not you are finding them a new "forever home" or taking on the rescue yourself. I don't see the problem, really. Unless the other person is getting all the good stuff you want. lol

Hoarders think no one else is capable of taking care of animals better than they are, so they take in rescues like candy and don't want to adopt them out. Soon they are overrun and can't take care of themselves, much less the animals. They never see it that way though. Sounds like this person has hoarding tendencies...

That is what I am getting from it. They acquired numerous reptiles in such a short period of time. They now have like 15 plus other animals. I remember it took me over 3 years to get to that and even then it's too much and I downsized. Some days are just a struggle.

If you started that program and u feel they are not helping out you should get rid of him or her. Don't shut it down chameleons need you. Keep up the good work.

I agree this person just sounds like a horder and if there not help there a problem and you should get ride of them if you feel thats whats best for your rescue..... and mabe fin someone else who would help you and carry some of that strees....... great job keep up the work

Exactly. Lots of people decide to work with rescues so they can fill an endless hole of desire. They are trying to justify their OWN needs under the guise of rescuing. Also, some people start rescues for less common creatures because they covet them and can't afford or don't want to pay for them.

I would re-structure the rescue (either change who is in charge of what activity or who makes the decisions) and dump this person. They are not doing the animals any favors. A true rescuer won't care who does what...as long as the animal gets out of a bad situation that's all that matters to them.
