Just got a panther!!!!

Hi everyone. I have been wanting a chameleon (panther) for a very long time. Yesterday i was browsing around on craigslist, and found a local guy that was moving and couldnt take his screameleon set up with him. I called him and he said $100 and its mine, he just needs to find it a good home.

All I can say is my Cham, Yadi, is absolutely amazing. He is 10 months old and has a lot of pictures. I would post pics but i do not want to stress him out too much, as I just got him home last night. He is eating very well, already taking them out of my hand. I have a couple questions...

1.) My humidity is at 40, I have an automatic mister and am spraying it 2 times a day.. Is this okay, if not how can I make it better.

2.) I went and bought 48 crickets yesterday to last me a couple days, petco had HUGE ones and small ones. I didnt want to feed him anything he couldnt handle, so got the small ones. Now I am scared they are too small. Will they be okay until he runs out?

I am really enjoying Yadi, as I lost my dog recently and this all seems meant to be! He is very fun to watch and he seems to be adjusting to his new home very well!

I will try to get pics up soon but Yadi is not very fond of the camera!

Any advice for a new owner??

Thanks guys!

I cant help much right now, but no crickets are to small. But you might want to get bigger ones to help fill him up more. Please fill out the "how to ask for help" form so I can help you more. Thanks.:)

I would mist much more often. Do you have live plants in the cage with him? They'll help keep the humidity up. But do at least a couple more mistings a day and make them longer if you have to so that the cage is nice and wet. But it should be mostly dry by the time the next misting comes on. It's a balance between not getting everyting continuously wet and letting it get too dry.

They might be small but he'll just have to eat more of them to compensate. Next time get the large, they'll be more than fine in size. Remember to gutload the crickets with fruits and vegetables before giving them to your chameleon. And look into ordering insects online, it'll be much cheaper in the long run, you'll see. A site like Mulberryfarms.com is a great place, as are other site sponsors.

my advice to everyone who asks for advice is - read everything once youve read it all - read it again.

more or less almost every question you could think of has been answered so if you try a few key words in the search box you could save yourself some time if you are in a bind. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

as far as i know youre going to want to bump that humidity up to at least 50 percent. try a humidifier if you are having a hard time with that.

my cham doesnt like super super small things but like.. 3/8ths inch up hes still interested so if its around 1/2 inch you should be good..this is just my experience.

one thing though...were really going to need pictures.. OR ELSE!:D

also im interested in your setup if you want to post some details abotu that or take a picture. (or both)

I actually read my humidity wrong.. It has been fluctuating between 70-90, is this acceptable or too high? I do not have any live plants..

right when you mist thats fine but its need to drop to (?) or so as a normal(IDk the humid range for panthers). if its to high it may cause an RI.

You should try to let it get to around 60 or 70 percent humidity and that should be good before misting again.
