But has anyone thought about using those things that people use to water rodents and rabbits? If you put it near the basking spot would they be able to see the small drop on the bottom.

I've tried it before and didn't ever see Lily drink from it when it was in her cage - she just tried to climb on it! However, she does drink from one when I drip it in front of her. I found that it attracts their attention more if you drip it slowly onto a Pringles lid!

I found with my daughters rabbit it dripped only if it wasnt hung perfectly vertical.
wouldnt drip for long anyway, you really need a big container hung up high.
That said, it might work as an 'extra'. eventually your cham might see light shining on the droplet
and investigate, and get the idea. But I wouldnt rely on one as a sole water source.
