Just a heads up

My Boy started to show signs of sickness. From the information I had gathered I self diagnosed a respiratory infection and was right. So last night I took him to the vet and the doctor recommended 2 (not sure what to call the measurement) dashes on the needle worth of antibiotic a day, just under the skin. He also recommended me a tenth (again, not sure on what to call the measurement, yet I know how much) of calcium to give my boy orally daily. Hope he gets better, wish him luck!!! I'll keep his progress posted!

I have a question. Now I was given an oral syringe to give Rojo a calcium supplement. However he is also slightly dehydrated. Could I use one of the spare oral syringes to manually feed him water? Could using such a technique harm him or would it be alright?

I just want to make sure that he is keeping hydrated. Also if I should go ahead and orally give him water using a syringe, how much?

I've used a needless syringe to drip water on my chameleon's nose. I would try that first. If you do decide to give him water orally be very careful and don't give more an a little bit at a time. You don't want to shoot it past his tongue.

Thanks guys!

The vet told me to inject him with 2 units of "Amikacin 250mg/mL" just under the skin in the front half of his body daily. That is with the prescribed antibiotic for his respiratory infection.

Along with this, I was told to orally give Rojo .1mL of "Calcium Glubionate Syrup per mL/#10 mL" in the mouth once daily. This is because since the respiratory infection, Rojo hasn't been eating as much as normal and the vet said that his calcium levels dropped slightly such that his jaw is just slightly movable and isn't as stiff as it should be.

That is the specifics of my instructions, of which I have been following. I also keep his cage temp maintained at 82-84 degrees and have been trying to keep a humidity of around 45 throughout the day, though since I've been working two jobs over the weekend, it's been around 20. This will be corrected over the following week since I will be home to maintain close watch on him.

Any more advice I can get on the forums is greatly encouraged and appreciated!

Oh and to add one more thing, Rojo keeps his left eye closed all the time and his right closed part of the time. So i've been flushing out his left eye with "CVS brand Saline Solution for Sensitive Eyes" once daily which the vet said wouldn't hurt. Should I continue this treatment or stop it?

It also appears that since i've been flushing out this eye, Rojo has begun peeling over his left eye. I'm assuming it's because of the solution?

Reptisun 5.0 Linear bulb (im on the 4th month with this bulb, will change at the 6th month) and a basking bulb, not sure on the soecifics ill check when i get home

Okay...I'm just wondering because often eyes closing is in response to lights that are too powerful, but the 5.0 shouldn't be an issue.

The peeling is most likely just the start of a shed, that is ok. I would continue to was his eyes out, and I would try dripping water on his nose. You really want to be sure he stays hydrated.

Yea he's just shedding right now but i've been giving him showers once a day. He really gets a good drink from those so i'm gonna stick with those for hydration!

He's been keeping both eyes closed now :( but i'm almost positive that's because he is shedding over both eyes now! I just hope he starts keeping his eyes open throughout the day so I know the antibiotics and everything is working!

One thing that gets me though is why would he only keep his left eye closed because of a respiratory infection?
