Jackson's Subspecies

VeiledChams

Avid Member
As some of you may have read, I recently got a Jackson's out of a bad situation at a local petstore.

I've been told (by Ace) that it looks to be a xanth, and I agree, but I want to know how to differentiate between subspecies, specially between Xanths and Merumontana.

Here are the two pics of him: Any help with that and any tips for future reference are greatly appreciated.

I finished building him a cage today using your vid from YouTube (Thank you for it btw, very helpful). I have given him 2 30minute showers in my bathroom. He hasn't eaten yet, but my concern is rehydration. Tomorrow he's gonna be going to the vet along with my other 3 chams. Hopefully he can put on some weight and fill out some.

What do you look for when determining the subspecies?

Merumontanus is alot smaller than xantholophus and they have somewhat of a teal colored ground color, with some aqua blue in the eye and some yellow highlights on the base of the horns. Jacksonii have a aqua ground color as well on the head area, but they have some yellow on the side of the body. Plus 99.9% of all Jacksons you see in pet stores are xantholophus. They are alot more common than the others. Glad the cage videos helped.

put some pic and why how or why did you take the chameleon shower??
be nice LOL :D

hi, the reason for the shower is the cham may need more water. Put a plant in the shower, put cham on the plant, spray warm, not hot, water on wall to then fall on cham. let me know if you need more information.

So that was the question ?

Arent chameleons chlorine remover in there water. If they are in the shower cant they get sick by drinking the chlorinised water.

I read it a few hours ago, VERY interesting and extremely helpful.

I give my chams tap water all the time and nothing has happened.. I also know that Carol does too. Rule of thumb for me is, if I'll drink it, then they can drink it.

K so you dont have to dechloronize water because I know everybody said on the gecko forum that your supposed to dechloronize water for my Crested gecko.

Idk anything about crested geckos, but i know they arent chams:D I know the water where I live is safe to drink (for me) so I'm ok with giving it to my chams. I guess it depends on where you live too.
