Jacksons overview?

So I'm about 100% certain I'll be buying one of Titan's jackson chams he posted for sale. He's already given me some great information, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has anytihng to say in general about their care / specifics. Thanks!

I just have to say I am madly in love with my Jackson's. Between him and my two panthers, he's the sweetest and most relaxed. He never shows his stressed colors, even if I'm holding him. This isn't the norm for everyone of course, but just to let you know that mine has been fantastic.

Mine is shy in his cage, so I like to move the plants forward so he can run around behind them if he doesn't want to be seen. So he'll be out in the open a couple hours and then hiding a couple of hours. I like to give him the option to do so. Other than that, all the caresheets and such cover everything. Lots of water and he should do great!

Jacksons

I too love my Jacksons, they are the best. I am glad to hear some one else is so in love with theirs too. :)

That's awesome to hear! Titan did mention in his ad that his guys are pretty friendly :)

Olimpia - You mentioned care sheets... any good ones you know of for Jackson's? I've done a few different searches but haven't been able to find any that weren't for panthers or veileds! :p

i love my Jackson as well his name is Merlin and sometimes when im cleaning his cage he will climb right on my hand and up my arm onto my shoulder he is great, hope you enjoy yours as well.

jacksons

most jacksons have a sweeheart disposition compared to most other chams, their care isnt really that much different from panthers or vieleds, except they are a little more sensitive to lighting and supplementation issues. they get dehydrated easier than panthers or veileds or veileds, so a little extra humidity might be in order as well, they also like cooler temps,(xanths in captivity will often seek out more heat than is good for them if available) the maximum temp i offer my xanths is 84* they also like a substantial nightime drop in temps, and they are much more comfortable, if their basking spot is above eye level. i am sure that if you buy one, cf member titan will fill you in on the specific care routine that his chams are used to.

He's definitely helped me out a lot already - just didn't want to bug him with too many questions! :p

Is an ambient temperature of about 75 too warm for them? And how about basking - is that included in your 84 range?

im relatively sure he would rather have you ask questions than be unable to care for them. the ambient temp is going to be what it is going to be, since it will closely follow room temp, but it would be good to keep it below 78* if you can. i limit the uva basking temp to 84*. to take a lot of the guess work out of it, i would recomend a simple linear (long straight tube) reptisun 5.0 for uvb, and a simple 25-40 watt incandescent regular house bulb for uva. my care conditions may be different than what cf member titans chams are used to, so he would be a more appropriate, person to fill you in on gutloading, supplementation etc. i will say one thing in closing, cham care requirements can be complex, and if you want to keep your chams healthy long term, you will need to educate yourself in depth from a #of sources, and not just base all of your care requirements on just what one person (including titan or me), one website or care sheet provides. good luck and welcome to the jacksons and cham community. jmo

Definitely - I've been researching chams in general for months now, and just recently got my first panther. So not completely new, although still have a ton to learn, of course. As long as the basics are pretty much the same as panthers and veileds, I think I'll have those down pat! My main concerns with them were temps and other species-specific things, which you've helped out a ton with! Thanks!

I love my Jackson's (1.1). Both are very mellow and a joy to share space with.:)

Following general husbandry reccomends are key and will yield good companion animals. Anything more, and you will need to up your level of care.

There used to be a fantastic website with just about anything you needed to know about Jackson's, but last time I tried to go to it the site seemed to have been deleted. But there are other small care sheets out there as well as books that are very informative. Like Xanthoman said earlier, they really differ in heat and humidity requirements, which are easy to have correctly from day one, and a more gentle supplementation schedule.

I have just had mine a few weeks but they are wonderful. Both Jackie & Jewel are just as described, mostly in the open but hide once in a while. I love them to bits.

Thanks John, I just copied all those Jackson links to add to my boods and other info.:)
