Jackson Tongue Issues:

We’ve recently found a female Jackson Chameleon in the back yard of our restaurant. It turns out that the landlord had introduced a bunch of chameleons in the yard to control pests. She seemed to have fallen from a tall tree and apeared to be injured in the nose area. We held her in a large box for a couple of days with some foliage while we tried to find her a home, she was not eating. We decided to keep so we did as much reading as we could, bought a terrarium, and took her home.
On the first day she gave birth to 8 babies and two slugs. 5 made it out of their sacks. The babies are doing fine but the mom will only eat with aid from us. She is hunting and trying to catch her prey but her tongue will only extend abut an inch and does not stick on to her prey. We took her to a vet but the doc said she couldn’t know for sure because she wouldn’t open her mouth and we did not want to spring for exrays. She mentioned that it could be an injury, dehydration, or bone disease. She also said that she was active and looked healthy otherwise.
The babies are still fine and we are feeding her gut loaded crickets, sometimes with calcium, making sure they are all properly hydrated. She still can not catch prey on her own but does try often. We’ve looked into her mouth when she has opened it and have not seen any parecites, injuries, discoloration, or anything out of the ordinary. It doesn’t appear to have improved.
Any ideas?
