Jackson Developed a Brown Lump Over One of His Spikes

Hello,
My Jackson came home with me a week ago today, and everything has been going somewhat smoothly, except today I noticed one of his spikes is enveloped in what almost looks like burnt sugar. It is almost hard to the touch, although I haven't messed with it a lot other than to feel it. From the side where you can't see the brown stuff, the spike appears a white rather than the typical yellow. Please help, I'm not sure what to make of this! It could be dried blood, however I don't want toa ct without some experienced insight first.

Because it is just the single spine I doubt its a burn, probably a physical injury from shipping...something that originally happened before you got him. It might just be a healing scab as I don't see swollen or a reddened area surrounding the spine. I'd suggest dabbing on some Polysporin and keeping an eye on the skin around the spine. If you see any swelling, discoloration, or more spines discoloring you should find a vet. Also, just in case, check the actual temp right at the basking perch where he sits to warm up. Make sure that temp is not too hot.
