Jackson Age?

Hi folks, I got this guy from Petco about 2 1/2 weeks ago (they weren't keeping him in a proper enclosure. 10 gallon aquarium with less than 4" to climb up. He was only there a week so he wasn't in too bad of shape as you can see, this pic is from the day after I brought him home. But I decided to pick him up before he started going down)

Anyway, can someone help me with his age and his subspecies? Petco wasn't exactly privy to that info....

His name is Stonewall (10 points to whoever can guess why!)

First off, he's an absolute doll! I love the nubby little horns! Stonewall Jackson, duh :D

He looks to be a young adult, maybe 6 to 8 months old - about the same size as my Jax when I got him. He looks like a xantholophus Jacksons.

It seems like you are aware that the big chain pet stores have a bad reputation for chameleon care. We have some great resources here on the forum:

Best of luck and welcome!

Im going to agree with the age and species. I have had my handsome dude for 2 years now. The love humidity and to be high in the air. I have found that mine is happier when he is higher than me so I build him a really tall cage. They love humidity and dont forget the Jacksons are a bit smaller than the other species of chameleons. He is a midget compared to my panthers and veils. But, still my favorite little man. Loves to hang out on my head, and handles very well.

@Lathis - Thanks! Yeah most pet stores have a terrible reputation. I've actually gotten 2 leopard geckos, a horned mountain lizard, 2 bearded dragons, and 2 chams from this one up here as the manager of the animals actually gives a hoot about what happens to them. But she apparently (according to the DM) is on vacation for like 3 weeks and apparently no one took over watching the animals from a management side. This was really the first issue I've seen there, all of the animals I've gotten from them have always been healthy, BUT if I hadn't had grabbed him he would have started getting quite sick, good thing he was only there for a week!

@Rob - Yeah I've noticed by the way he climbs my face every time I get him on my shoulder. He loves cruising around on my head/shoulders. I can walk over to his cage and he will climb onto the open door and then onto my shoulder with almost no coaxing. Unlike my veiled he actually will sit there and just chill under the dripper for 10 minutes or so a couple times a day. He loves playing in water, I'm 90% sure he is always wet.
