Isopods And Wood Lice

Are Isopods and Wood Lice the same thing?

My dog brings alot of these in on his fur from the back yard and wondered if they are the same thing. If not, can wood lice be fed to a chameleon?

They are not the same thing
Wood lice can be fed to isopod ( pill bug ) 2nd generation pill bug (isopod) can be fed to your chameleon. Wild caught pill bugs have too much metal in them to feed to your chameleon. That is all I know, I know nothing of feeding wood lice directly:rolleyes:

What?

"rollie pollies" and "wood lice" are both different types of isopods. There are many species of "rollie pollies" and many species of "wood lice." Wild isopods are not good to feed to your chameleons, but captive bred ones are great as a treat.

Wood lice are a type of terrestrial isopod, yes.
Weird that your dog picks these up on its fur. That's not exactly normal for wood lice aka wood sow aka armadillo bug aka terrestrial isopod aka rollie pollie. These little creatures like dark damp areas, not dog fur.

Terrestrial isopods do make a nice snack for chameleons. High in calcium, easily gutloaded. As noted, they are also heavy metal bio-acumulators, and may carry parasites, so while feeding off one or two wild ones to your chameleon is okay, if you're going to make them a regular part of the diet its better to breed your own (or buy them).
