I have two of these fixtures, but 24" size with 22" bulb on top of my reptibreeze XL, one with arcadia 6% UVB and the other with 6500k daylight bulb for my plants. They work great and look nice; they do take up a lot of space on top of the enclosure but it's not a problem.
With all that, do you still need a low wattage heat bulb?I buy these 2-Pack T5 HO Grow Light - 1 Bulb Light System - Fluorescent Hydroponic Indoor Fixture Bloom Veg Daisy Chain with Bulbs (2 Foot & w/Reflector (DL8021R 2pack), Cool White | Vegetative) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XPKQPSL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-PeZCbQ0V2ZFK and keep one bulb for my live plants and replace the other with this https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petco...g-lighting/zoo-med-reptisun-50-uvb-t5-ho-lamp you only have to use one power cord and tether the 2 lights fixtures together with the cable provided.
Am I able to just sit it on top of the cage?Yes these do not put off heat only UVB you will need a basking bulb/spot. When you do get your reptisun T5 or Arcadia bulb put that light nearest to you basking spot.
UVB light can be set on top. It's not recommended to set the basking light on the top of the cage due to the fact that young chameleons tend to pretend they're Spider-Man and climb upside down on the screen top and can easily be burned by this.Am I able to just sit it on top of the cage?
