recently in my plants for big boy cage ive been developing mushrooms so time to change up the soil. i bought this IMG_20140529_012619.jpg schultz tropical mix. says "contains a rich blend of canadian sphagnum peat moss, perlite, organic materials, and multicote slow release plant food, creating an excellent mix ideal for all your philodendrons, peace lilies, palms, hibiscus, crotons, and other tropicals"

Mind you this is not a full organic mix I know many of who will suggest getting. I also bought sand to go in the bottom and uptop and will have rocks covering.

does this sound like a good choice? or any other recommendations

I think you should be fine provided that your chameleon doesn't have an easy way to eat it. You just want to make sure that the chameleon doesn't eat any fertilizer as that will hurt it.
