My chameleon itchy has been brown alot lately when i have him in his cage, but when i take him out on nice days he fires up real nice. During the day he will wake up and move around the cage alot, and will be gray and black, his normal cage colors, then he will find a spot in the middle and chill for hours with a brownish color. he is about 5 month old panther, he eats fine, drinks fine, fecal and urates r normal and food and vitamins are applied regularly and gutloaded with fruit and collards

He is still young and doesn't have his full color yet, so it's pretty normal. I would double check his basking temp to see if he is going dark to absorb more heat as temp may be too cool.

ty donna, thats what i am thinking as his tmps seem fine, i catually lowered his bulb since it got hotter. we have a basement apartment so winter was cold. i guess he is just a late bloomer and i gotta be patient : )

if your temps are right for the age and species of chameleon you should leave them at the sugested temps. chameleons turn darker to bask, my male vield is a brownish green inside the cage, for hes absorbing his heat , his temps are at 87-90 degrees. then when removed, or when he is fed, he fires up and becomes what we like to call the "pretty colors" . so dont worry.

Hi
i have one thought, most likely not the issue but it seems worth mentioning. At 5 months he must be somewhat new to you. How long have you had him, How sure are you that he is actually a he? Even though its young you should be seeing some good color fairly often. Maybe some pics would help....... get some at relax and then fired up. also some close ups of the rear would be helpful. if you have some info on his father that might help also, as usually follow in their footsteps, when it comes to color. please post some pics. thanks
