Is this Cham suffering?

Hi

This Veiled lives in my glass enclosure. Ive been taking care of him since he was about a month, thats roughly half a year ago, and it has been a good time.
But lately hes been obsessed with climbing on the glass, and as you can imagine, hes not doing it well. He spends alot of time in front of the glass every day (See pictures). Obviously it seems like he wants to get out, and i do open the cage often. Mostly he takes a walk in the room, but sometimes he keeps trying to climb the glass even though the cage is open. As ive read, i suspect he has a desire to go high, and i have concidered hanging a rope in high places in the room.
Is this hyper behaviour normal for a teenage veiled male??

Ps. There are no reflections in the glass

It does appear that he is a climber but I'm not so certain hanging ropes around your room will be effective only in the event he takes a nasty fall and hits the floor hard. Have you considered a free range set up? They can provide the cover and height he requires without being dangerous, IMHO. There are alot of senior members on here that have free ranges and perhaps could help you find a solution to this problem. BTW, he looks healthy, so I'm sure he's just having issues with the size of his cage.

Ya,,,i think around 7 months old you need to get them into a minimum 3 foot high cage,,,,My Jimmie used to and now my Guber scratches at the glass from time to time!!!! But Jimmie went into his big boy cage around 6-7 months old and Guber will follow suit!!!!

Chams just don't understand glass and some will continue to try getting past it and pawing at it endlessly. If you can't give him a larger taller cage (which would probably be best) you could try arranging some sort of mesh or netting (what about pieces of fish net?) on the inside of the tank walls for him to climb on instead. It would be less frustrating for him and he could climb all over the tank more easily. It could be he's searching for a female at his age.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I guess ill be looking into a new cage asap since he's not even fully grown and setting up free range. He is a good cham after all, he deserves to be happy!!

I drives me crazy to see an animal clawing away at the glass trying to climb and not knowing why they arent getting anywhere!!

I cant stand to watch that!

Have you thought of getting a all screen cage and placing it on a small table to elevate his basking area above your eye level?
