Chameleon Info:
8 month veiled chameleon.. I have had him since he was a baby
How much do I handle it? Only when he jumps on my hand, but I usually dont grab him.
Feeding - I have most crickets, some dubias (not now, as Im running out of them and Im currently breeding), superworms, hoppers.. I gutload them with oranges, carrots, jam, dandelion, sandrachameleon´s dry gutload recipe
Supplements - (I used to follow this before he started hunger strike)
plain calcium: monday tuesday thursday friday
calcium plus: wednesday
repcal vitamin and calcium d3: I switch between them on sundays
Watering - I never see him drink.. he has 3 sessions of mistking mistings of 10 minutes each, and a big dripper dripping on leaves.
Fecal Description - they are not soft, and dont look very hidrated (but I have been making him drink out of a syringe and they seem to be getting more and more hydrated)
History - He used to eat a lot, and his feces looked really good on the small cage... now he is on a bigger cage and he doesnt seems as hidrated as he used to be... He has been on hunger strike for about a month...

Cage Info:
Cage Type - its the bigest reptibreeze ... I forgot the size..
Lighting - basking spot, reptisun 5.0, and a regular incandecent house bulb for aditional light... he is also next to an open window for some natural light.
the go on at 6 am and are down at 6 pm just like otside (winter)
Temperature - temperature is around 20C in the cold sides, and about 30C in the basking area... in night temperature drops to 16C
Humidity - its usually around 40... it goes up and down with the misting sessions.
Plants - I have two beatiful schefflera, and a Dracaena fragans
Placement - its in my room.. next to an open windon
Location - im located in Hermosillo, sonora mexico... right down the state of arizona

Current problem:
My cham has been on hunger strike for about a month... Im guessing he might be eating every now and then since he has freerange insects in his inclosure.
I kind of make him eat every two days or so.. I come really close to him and he hisses, and I place a cricket on the tip of the mouth and he eats it. (I give about 4)

I was told sometimes hunger strikes are because of stress, or maybe parasites.. Ive been trying to make a fecal test, but theres no reptile specialist vet around the area... Ive been searching and none of the vets have any experience with chameleons...
One of them told me he could do the fecal test, but that he was not experienced on it.

Anyways.. I was just cleaning the cage and I saw this thing moving in the water reserviour (wich is located at the bottom of the cage).
I started to look around and there seems to be one or two more around the bottom of the cage.. Im not completly sure if the other ones are worms too, as they where dry and would disappear as soon as I tried to remove it with the paper towel.
Here is a picture of it... what do you guys think it is???
Could it be a regular soil worm? or is it a intestinal parasite?
what should I do????? heeelp!!!!!

Great, I will just have to trust this guy...
I will try to catch tomorrow morning stool for the check up
So... parasites are the same as any other animal?

To me it doesn't really look like ascarids which would come first to my mind looking at the picture and seeing a round, long worm. But colour and surface doesn't match ascarids, it's too thick for oxyures and a filaria does look somewhat else, too. It doesn't even look like any other usually found parasite in chameleons. I suppose it's a small earthworm. But fecal check's always a good idea. Remember most parasite stages can't be seen with the naked eye.

If there's no reptile vet in your area, you could send the fecal by post to a colleague farther away. Put the fecal into a sealed, non-breakable small bin and add a drop of water to keep it moist. A non-specialized vet can of course take a look at the fecal, but I'm sure there will be some problems in properly identifying the parasite species, which can be quite important for treatment.

I had what looks to me to be the same kind of worms.this caused me a panic and off to a vet friend went a picture. I aw assured it is a naturally occurring earthworm. I can't guarantee yours is a earthworm, but all I know says it is, jmo

I freaked out at first but after I finding several worms in the same way and place that you did, I felt sure they were earthworms coming out of the soil from the plants in his cage.

Omg, thank you guys... I will relax a bit now...
I did get a stool today... but I dont really know if its a fresh new one... it was on a leaf, and Im not quite sure if thats yesterdays, I usually clean in the nights and sometimes I cant see poop in the leafs.
Im going to wake up earlier tomorrow and wait for him to drop a new one.

As for this stool I have in here, I opened and saw about 3 or 4 things that look like cricket eggs.... I guess I will just have to wait for tomorrow and go straight to have it checked up

Always a good idea to have it checked periodically anyway! Good to catch things before damage is done ;).
