Hi guys! I got this WC Ambilobe female for few days. She is very healthy and always tries to bite me.

Yesterday, I put my male ambilobe in her chamber and she seemed to be very angry. Both the male and female opened their mouth. Therefore, I seperated them immediately.

My question is that accroding to your experience whether she is ready to mate, or is she already pregnant?

Your answer will be very valuable to me for I live in Shanghai and there are few people may help me in this city.

Thanks!

If i were you i would not be putting her in with your male until she has been to the vet for a check up. All w/c come in usually with a very heavy load of parasites. By putting her in with your guy before she is treated will only spread them to him. When we get a new cham, especially a w/c, they are always quarantined for 30-60 days. When you get 3 clean fecals back, THEN you can think about breeding her. If she is loaded with parasites, and she probably is, by trying to breed her would put too much stress on her little body. You have to get her in tip top shape first. And even if the breeder said he treated her already, it doesn't matter, you have to at least get a fecal on her to make sure she is parasite free. I know you might be anxious to breed her now, but believe me it is worth the wait.

Thanks for the advice.

Its always wise to quarantine a new chameleon for at least 6 weeks. I don't usually get fecals done until after this.

Then...generally people put the male into the female's cage for breeding. I would hold the male outside the female's cage so that they can see each other. Watch their reactions. If the female turns dark and hisses, lunges, sways back and forth...then she is either gravid or non-receptive. If she remains calm and her colors remain paler then she is likely willing to mate. If the male is not reacting in an agressive manner but bobbing his head and she is behaving in a receptive manner, you can place the male into the female's cage. Continue to watch them for a bit to ensure that they both remain "in the mood". When the female turns dark or starts to reject the male, he should be removed immediately.

If the female rejects the male (as yours did) don't put them together and try again in a few days.

I'll wait and give them time to develop love. Thanks!
