Is My Temp Too High?

I JUST bought a reptibreeze with a 5 month old panther in it. I am using a 50w heat bulb and i feel the Temp is too high. I placed the heat lamp on the cage and the temp was reading 120 degrees at the higest point (basking spot) and 80 degrees at the lowest. So i moved the heat lamp up about a foot and the temp went to about 100 degrees at the higest and 75 degrees at the lowest. What should i do? I know the cage is to be no hotter then 95 degrees in the basking spot. Should i move it up more? will it be ok if i do so? what about the bottom of the cage, is it ok the be around 70-75?

Also my humidity is at 64% i have a fogger and a mister that i have going off every hour. I dont have real plants in this cage as i plan to move him to my 175 gallon in a few months that has real plants. What can i do to raise the humidity?

100 is still too hot. You really should have it like around 90, in my opinion. When they are a little older, I find they can go a little bit hotter when they're older, because they can handle it better.

EDIT- Real plants would help a lot with the humidity. As long as his/her urates are white, I think it will be fine for now.

Yeah, move the light further back - don't want to burn him........or get a 40W bulb........do you have a dripper for constant drinking water? Then don't worry about humidity.

get a smaller wattage bulb probably....40W they even make 25W but 25W is probably too small unless your ambient temps are very hot

How are you getting 100 degrees with a 50W bulb? I'm getting 80 with a 60W bulb and it's as close to the top of the cage as I feel is safe (it's a mesh cage).

I just double checked and i must have grabbed a 75w bulb. I Guess thats why, i will pick up a 50w bulb today and try that. Thanks everyone

i keep my panther at 85-90 at the highest, and a cooler area in the high 70's at the bottom.

Just put in a 50w bulb and it seems to be better. i have to keep it about 8 inches off the cage but the basking spot is now at 95 and the bottom is at 70 with the humidity at 65%
