Hi I have a panther had him for about six months rescued him from very poor conditions, everything been going fine until yesterday morning I got him a little female freind, they seemed fine greeted each ova and sat together, I then woke up this morning and he has got a few cuts on his tail about thesize of a small pea. 2 crickets were left in wiv him but this has never happened before is there anychance it could be the female doing this I feel it's unlikely but imnot 100% confident its not. The marks are rounded like something has had a nibble but agen this has never happened before the female is a bit smaller than male and also younger any advice would be greatly appreciated thanxxxxx

My first guess would be that it was crickets, as they are known to chew on chameleons while they sleep if they are left in the cage. Definitely remove all crickets from now on before bed time. Also, you need to get separate enclosures for your chameleons. They will remain stressed if housed together. It's just not a good idea.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Chameleons are solitary animals and need to be housed separately. You need to do this ASAP. One will become dominant and prevent the other from getting its share of food, light etc . They will also fight. When you separate them you will need a laying bin for the female a they can become gravid at about 5-6 months. They shouldn't be mated until they reach sexual maturity at about a year old. There are lots of blogs on here that will help you. You have come to the right place to ask questions.:)

Well I will definitely make sure there is no food left in over night and the female I just bought has beenhoused wiv othermale her whole life that's why I thought it was okay I bought it from a decent reptile shop that I occasionally go to and theyhave always been together I have no problems separating them but that was not my intention. The health of my lizards is of course my top priority and I will do wateva it takes to keep them happy. P. S. I will not breed until fully mature lol thanx

You can keep babies together until a few months old. When one becomes dominant they need to be parted as one will suffer. Together the male will attempt to mate. Can you put neosporin or polysporin on the bites and keep an eye on bites for infection. :)

It could have definitely been the female. In fact I'd put money on it. Just because two chameleons get along does not mean that she will get along with every chameleon (just like people). And as mentioned already that is a very stressful situation for a female to be housed with a male and often leads to disaster: chronic stress causing illness, serious injury, and eventually death. If you keep them together then you have absolutely no control over when they mate and they will not wait until they're fully mature because the male will constantly be pressuring the female. They need to be separated asap.
