My Chameleon has always been very active, loves coming out and about the house with me but all of a sudden he has started dangling his arm, isn't eating as he normally would and has developed a black circular spot just under his mouth. I don't know what to do. Do I need to take him to a vet.

Sorry to hear that your little guy isn't feeling well. If you could answer these questions, someone can review your husbandry and better tell you what may be going on. Photos would be helpful as well. How long has this been going on for?

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Please Note:
  1. The more details you provide the better and more accurate help you will receive.
  2. Photos can be very helpful.

Can you please post current photos of your chameleon along with the spot and the dangling of the arm?

Sheryl please only post one thread about the same issue. Or it is really hard for us to give you thorough feedback and for you to follow all advice given.

Wow where do I start.
60 x 90 screen mesh cage. On set of drawers approximately 4 foot from floor. Had him from December 2019. Combi heat lamp on top which is set on a timer. Alternate feeding of crickets, worms locusts, occasional grub. (All live food has fresh veg ) Have offered Chameleon fruit/ veg but he won't touch it.
All live food dusted with calcium and once a week dusted with protein.

Please copy and paste this form and fill it out with the information asked. And we need pictures of the cage lighting down and current pictures of the chameleon.

Protein? Do you mean multi vitamin?

Are you not using a UVB bulb?

You should call around to your exotic reptile vets and find out if they have chameleon experience. Take him to the vet. I can not tell from your pics what the black spot is.
