Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male baby veiled chameleon, got him 5 days ago
Handling - 5 to 10 minutes per day
Feeding - small crickets, gutting with carrots, put about 6 in the cage per day and I have caught him hunting/eating several times, there are 2 wax worms in a dish in the tree but he's not interested
Supplements - repticalcium without d3
Watering - There is a humidifier on a timer on 1 hr 8xday, a mister on a timer 3 minutes 2xday, and misting in the morning. I have seen him drinking as recent as yesterday evening. he drank from several leaves
Fecal Description - I can only find 1 poop, half brown, half white, pretty solid but not firm
History - I only got him 5 days ago, the pet store doesn't give a history
Cage Info:
Cage Type - screen cage 16"x16"x36"
Lighting - one 5.0 uvb bulb and one 60 watt incandescent bulb, both on 13 hrs/day
Temperature - digital thermometer at the top of the cage reads about 91 degrees during the day, floor and ambient room temperature are at 78 degrees
Humidity - low 50s to high 70 depending on when humidifier is running
Plants - I have 2 fake vines, 4 fake leafy vines, about 5 sticks, and a real hibiscus
Placement - cage is in my home office, cage is 3 feet off the floor, low traffic, I'm almost the only one who comes in here
Location - Greater chicago area
Current Problem - I am worried that my chameleon might be lethargic, but I can't tell. It is about midnight here. I took him out for his daily handling at about 9 oclock, and he went to sleep on my hand after about 30 seconds. After putting him back in his cage, he was just keeping his eyes closed and grabbing the air until he caught a branch. I was worried he was dehydrated, so I went to mist him, and he just sat there with his eyes closed. the last 5 days whenever I mist, he runs for the hills. Even when he's hoofing it, he's a slow bugger. When I took him out of his cage 15 mins ago to check on him, he didn;t even bother to open his eyes. He just moved around a bit to get a good grip and went back to sleep. How can you tell the difference between a lethargic cham and a sleepy cham? If he was just drinking yesterday, could he be dehydrated already? When I misted him tonight, I saw his mouth pop open briefly a couple times, was that drinking? I don't think his eyes are sunken, there's no convex ring around his eye at all, it's all convex. I don't want my little guy to be sick. Earlier this afternoon he was walking around like a champ, but he was still moving away from me when I opened the cage, but right now he just doesn't seem to care if I touch him. Do they just ignore the world after bedtime?
