Is maple safe??

I just cut a maple down in my back yard and would like to use some of the branches and logs in an enclosure. I know some trees are poisonous like cedar; but are maple safe? I read somewhere that red maple is not safe for birds because it can harbor fungus but vine maple is fine. I know it is not a red maple but I don’t know what kind mine is. Any opinions??

Hmmm...if I were you, I'd strip off the bark and let the wood dry for a few weeks and then soak it in bleach water, rinse it and let it dry again.

let it dry then bake it in your oven on medium for 15 min it should be good then..............send a pic of the maple and i can tell you what kind within a day my dad is a hortercultureist(((( sp? )))) and so is my grandpa (dr. dirt) from indianapolis indiana

I've used maple for years and it hasn't caused a problem. I just cut the branches off, rinse them off well and use them....no baking or other "treatments" done.

Thanks everyone. I figured it was safe, just wanted to make sure. I have used logs from this tree in my water monitor's enclosure with no problems but they can survive in a toilet; chameleons are a bit more fragile.
