Is a 48x24x24 cage large enough for a full grown veiled?

its time to get a new cage and i was wondering if a 48x24x24 cage was large enough for an adult male chameleon? my baby boy is only 5 inches long and since lllreptile has them on sale i was wondering if i could use this cage?

Yeah that is a good size. Even brad's website suggest this as a good size. Here have a look..

You may want to get a smaller enclosure for a bit unless you cup feed for a month or so because 5 inches isn't really that big. When they reach 5-6 months an adult enclosure would be fine without cup feeding.

Yeah i'd order it to take advantage of the sale but i wouldnt put him in it until hes about 4 months old.

I would say yes if it is being placed on the outside of the enclosure as mesh etc can block 50% of uvb penetration. What does everybody else think?

i say plastic mesh (reptarium) that blocks 50% of UVB.
aluminum screen is fine.
I am sticking with 5.0 UVB with real sunlight once a week (or more) -i live in CA so it's possible to give him sunlight pretty much all year around.

Have no problem at all.

The 10.0 are too strong for panthers and even veilds (imo)
There's lots of info re: these and other UV sources
please perform a forum search.
I stick with 5.0 tubes.

Not to oversimplify...
Basically most people will place the tube directly over the top of the cage
and not figure in the adjustment required if they use a reflective housing
(such as the 48' ones I use)
that will increase the total downward output.

Also the animals gauge their UV exposure by heat/light sensitivities
vs total UV absorption...
In short, more isn't always better.

a sub adult male will be fine in the 24/48" cage
anything below that will perhaps have a major problem locating enough food
