Introduction question/research

Hi folks, As some of you know, I now have a young female around 6 months old, and though I have no intention of attempting breeding till atleast 12 months, im researching the details of the breeding process in advance.
At present she is still a pleasant green with darker green dots when alarmed and not showing any other coloration, she did do some scratching at the floor at one point, but at the time she was temporarily housed in an exoterra pending completion of her cage, so I have discounted that, but have a soil bucket in her cage anyway.

Other than pacing/digging due the onset of an infertile clutch (if this occurs)
can you please perhaps point me to images of gravid/receptive female veileds
since descriptions can be misunderstood.

What is a recommended weight/age minimum before attempting any introduction and could you please explain any tecknique you use to ensure the safety of both lizards? Aka how long do you leave them together if neither show immeadiate interest?

How long do you leave them together if they do show interest (female displaying receptive colors)?
At what point do you separate them?
Do you reintroduce after a given period to insure 'x' many matings/greater chance of success?

You get the idea :)

All responses much appreciated. At present Im none to confident having never gone here before and im on the fence about weather or not to ever attempt it, all the storys about females and related issues that put me off females to begin with come rushing back. :)
Everybody went here for the first time at some point no?

I never weigh them...I just wait until they are over a year old and seem to be full grown. The female should show the mustardy-yellow splotches that indicate that she is sexually mature. You can see the mustardy-yellowish splotches in any of the above receptive coloration pictures shown below.

Signs of being close to egglaying include but are not limited to...increased girth above the back legs, roaming the cage looking for a site, drinking more, depending on how many eggs she is carrying, she may slow down or stop eating, usually grumpier than normal.

The introduction of the female to the male....
I hold the female outside the male's cage and watch for the reactions. This way they can not hurt each other if they are not ready to mate.

If the female is calm, stays calm colors, does not inflate her body, moves slowly away from the male, hugs the branches...then she is receptive.

If she gapes, hisses, lunges at the male, rocks back and forth, takes on dark background colors, etc. then she is non-receptive/gravid and should be put back in her own cage.

If the male coils and uncoils his tail, inflates his body, raises on hand up near his chin, hisses, etc. then he does not recognize the female as a receptive female....and the female should be put back in her cage.

If he approaches her with his bright colors on and does not act as above and the female acts receptively you can try to put the two together by putting the female into the male's cage.....but watch for any sudden negative (non-receptive) changes.

When the female takes on the dark background colors and non-receptive actions, she should be removed from the cage. Once gravid and when not in site of a male or other disturbance, the female may drop the dark background color.

Thanks......:)

I agree Hoj, he does seem to be wearing the ...'' Ha, like I'm scared, been there, seen it, done it, and there's glass between us now anyway ner ner ner ner '' grin doesn't he :D

Now the third inmate, Norris can't be doing with any of that nonsense, being the only Gay Chameleon in the county, he is never in the slightest bit interested in her at all.
