Insect Keeper

hey guys and gals.

ive been searching for a new system for keeping my bugs. so i was wondering if anyone knew where i could find the sliding cricket tubs that you see at petco and other local pet stores. its kind of like a cabinet but there are two totes that slide out. it also has a nice work area on top. I cant find these anywhere or anything even remotely similar.

HELP Please...

Go to walmart get a colored plastic container w/lid and buy one of their adjustable screen windows or some screen, and 2 rolls of paper towels.

Cut out section in top of lid and tape screen to top.
use the paper towels... go spill something.
get you some egg crates and put in corner of tank.

You now have the same thing but on a larger scale, crickets need ground room, and the keepers dont give that like egg crates and a container do..

The paper towel rolls will act just like the cricket keeper tubes do.

Don't get those cricket keepers. They're a waste. Go to target/Walmart and get one of these big containers with the lid that has handles on the sides. I cut a hole on the 2 sides and the top of the lid. Go to home depot and get a hot glue gun and very strong glue sticks. U also need to get metal screen. Screen that u use for windows on the outside to keep bugs out. Has to be metal or else the crix will chew thru the screen. Cut the screen to size and put clear packing tape on the the of the inside of the container. That keeps the crix from escaping. They can climb on that smooth surface. Here are a couple of pics. Good luck!!!

yeah there we go pictures say more than words some days lol

Another cool trick is put that packing tape up about 1/2 in the container and do rings of masking tape below that to the bottom. That will give the crickets more ground space. Lack of territory/ground space is a major player in cricket death/die off.

Thanks for the help guys but your getting it wrong. i dont mean the cricket keepers with the black tubes in them that maybe hold 20 crickets i mean the cabinet that petco supplies the crickets to the customer with. i cant find a picture online so i will go out and take a picture of theres and post it up in a couple of hours. it has the same concept of the tub that you are showing me but its easier and cleaner looking. i have to grab a bulb anyways so ill go now. be back soon

Here is what i mean:

cancel that

what do you mean?

sorry - I realized I was (as others have done) describing how to make one of those things with tubes. Then realized, thats not what you wanted.

I went to a home/hardware store and bought a plastic set of drawers on caster wheels. It has two deep drawers, three less deep drawers. Superworms are in the deep drawer on mine, but you could use for crickets easily enough (might need a few holes drilled for extra ventilation. I use the less deep drawers for mealworms, pupating supers, and storing supplements. stacking recycle bins work too

You're in the USA, so maybe you shop at Walmart, where something like this may be what you want: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-3-Drawer-Wide-Cart-White/8282897

something like this would work. but i would rather have something similar to the pic i posted. i want the cham cage to sit on top of it and to add a couple drawers so that everything is conveniently located. know what i mean? i asked the pet store where they go it from and nobody could come up with the answer. i might end up having to go to a wood shop with a drawing and have it custom made for me. which is good so then i could really have it the way i want it.

I think it's made specifically for their company. You'll most likely have to make it yourself. Unless you can find one on eBay PR something. The only other option would be the stacked drawers.

something like this would work great. i think im going to draw something up and have it built. ill post the plans and finished product here.
