I just need to rant.

So, I was out running errands yesterday and instead of stopping in at my usual pet store, I stopped in at one closer to my destination and bought Kukui a few dubias and crickets for the week.

While waiting for them to get my buggies, I decided to check out the reptiles they had for sale.

And I nearly pooped my pants at the nutso prices they were asking!!!!!!!!!!

Male veiled, about 5 months old, decent coloring, but nothing too spectacular...$350.
Bearded Pygmy, again, nothing too spectacular ... $150
Ambilobe panther male, rather pretty coloring ... $900
Jackson chameleon, male, crooked horns, dark coloring and looked like the start of mouth rot ... $350

I mentioned something to the manager on duty, asking why the prices were so high for the chameleons, but so low for the other reptiles (general market prices for all the snakes and other reptiles). He said it was because chameleons were hard to find.....

I also suggested that he remove the substrate, the waterfalls, the heated rocks, and glass cages. I thought I did so tactfully, but his response was "we're a pet store, I think we know what we are doing."

His attitude pissed me off, the prices were outrageous, and I overpaid for the crickets and dubias. I was overall appalled and had to rant and get this out before I exploded.

We just have to face the fact that there are a lot of ignorant and idiotic people in this world. Waiting for the apocolypse to get them out ;)

i know what you mean. the local pet store here is outrageous on everything. we have birds, mice, saltwater and freshwater aquariums, chams, and have had numerous other pets in the past and everytime i go in the pet store i make subtle remarks to the owner on the prices and health of the animals. he had baby chams a while back and they were all sick or injured. they were pretty average veileds and he wanted over $200 for each of them. lizard only. and this one we rescued was a cham he had sold and had it returned years later in horrible conditions, he kept it in the tiny baby cage it came in and wanted $900 for the adult male cham, a pothos plant and a baby cage that was broken and taped together in about five places

Alas though you bought from his store... and he could care less about anything else other than that transaction most likely.

When I encounter a pet store that:

Stinks when I open the door or has Insane prices...

I just turn and walk away. The only reason I tolerate the petsmart of the world is trying to steer clear of the live pet sections. And if I do get drawn over there I usually walk away angry or stressed about trying to rescue some poorly housed pet in there.
