Hi everyone,
So today was my chams first trip to the vet. Since last Monday everything has been slowly going down hill.
*Slight Yellow discoloration around the corners of the mouth, but no crusting or spitting out mucus or puss. Inside of mouth has Yellowish / Greenish mucus, and his gum line is inflamed and or swollen which was first spotted this morning.
* Weaked Grip
* Loss in appetite and drinking.
* This morning he climbed down to the floor of his cage and walked around for about 10 seconds, then went back up.
* Still active and alert, both eyes open.
* Bones still feel strong and sturdy with no curvature or deformation.
*Pooped healthy looking stool this morning.
Things I have done to possibly bring this about.
*Introduced him to hornworms for the first time 2 weeks ago.
*I put in 3 crested geckos into my Chams old baby / juveniles sized cage. During one of his free roam mornings he spotted it, made his way down there and started pacing around the top of the cage, turned colors I have never seen before (looked like warpaint on him, pitch black strips around eyes and face, (See Avatar) and started to head bob) even though the geckos were sleeping in their hide spot. I'm sure this caused him great stress or just really ticked him off. It seemed like he wanted to eat or kill one. Since then the geckos were moved to another room.
*Normally he is under a 100 watt powersun bulb = basking temp 85-90 degrees. On Sat morning I put in a 160watt left it in there till Sunday, but mid day Sunday the basking temp climbed to 120 degrees, so i changed it back.
Dr Levac gave me some baytril, 1 oral dose a day for 10 days. Injected him with some fluids. He said he still looked good and alert and that he was brought in early enough for him to likely make a full recovery
. He took a culture of the mucus and sent it off to the lab and told me he would call me friday.
We don't know what it is or the cause of it right now. I'm just asking for recommendations or if anyone else has had this experience before and could offer some advise.
I just bought some silk worms and thought it would be a good idea to have him on an easy digestible diet of silk, wax, and hornworms for right now until we find out what it is on Friday. I will try to get some pics up when I get a chance. But if anyone would share their thoughts or suspicions I would love to hear them.
Thanks!
and yes, I am one of those types who is super paranoid about his well being!!
