Ideal shade of colour when basking?

Hey ppl..was just wondering as have noticed my Jacksons puffing up and going black when in basking spot which is about 83deg..from what I have read I learnt that they go dark in colour and puff up to attract more heat but don't want to go over their recommended basking spot temp..I have noticed that when I take him out in the sun which is warmer, he turns a nice bright green with a yellow stripe! Should I try and bump up the temp a bit so that he has a comfortable basking spot??

Thats getting up there for a jacksons, they are a cool running type. Have you tried using a bulb with a wider beam angle so he would have maybe a 1ft wide spot to bask instead of a 6" area at 83?

As for outdoor colors, my other chams do the same thing. My outs is always turd brown with black accents inside. I take him out and he turns jet black with white accents.

Yeah I guess it's a pity that outdoor colours are brighter..I try not to leave too large of a basking spot as the larger part is humid and wet but he seems to prefer basking most of the times!
