I want babies :-(

We've been raising Jacksons for about 6 months now, and for the most part you could consider them healthy and thriving. They will be making a year old soon, so I was talking to my wife about breeding them. Shortly put, it was a stern "No", and she basically thinks I'm some kind of sick pervert But the truth is, they've really become my main hobby in the last 6 months and I totally love baby Jacksons! They're so cute and full of personality (at least from what I can tell). She also thinks it would be quite a financial burden cuz she thinks there will be tons of babies, but I would anticipate maybe 15 to 20 at the most. Right now we're learning how to breed crickets, which is going pretty well, but I doubt it will sway her much Money isn't really an issue in my household, but babies would definitely mean cutting down on shopping for her (although she won't admit).

If you plan ahead it isn't that expensive. We hatched out baby veileds 2 months ago and it hasn't cost us much money at all.

I started making my own fruit fly cultures before they were due to hatch and had dozens of them ready. I have a large dubia colony and as they got older and could eat larger food dubia nymphs have been their primary source. I've bought some small crickets but it has not been any large expense. If you are breeding crickets you've got that covered already.

the first chance i get, im breeding mine i say go for it, maybe concvince her it could be some sort of profit..even though you shouldnt do it for the profit. maybe even take the annoying approach and send her cute baby jackson's pics everyday in her e-mail, or something like that

Yeah, been tryin' to think of some kind of clever "oops! oh well!" scenario, but my wife knows me too well, lol...

I think my plan will be to just impress her with successfully raising food colonies. I'm confident with crickets, silk worms, and fruit flies don't seem too hard.

ive had numourous batches of jackson babies, they arent as expensive as you would think (also they dont pop out that many at a time), if you are breeding crickets you will have pinheads available, and get (like said earlier) some fruit flys started..breed them without your female human finding out, and when she sees the babies all you will hear is "awwwwwww, soooo cute!!!" she will drop all complaints after that

keep the babies cool, and keep them hydraited..the first 2 months are the hardest with baby jacksons..

Hmm, I guess that's true! She doesn't spend half as much time as I do w/them and I doubt she'd be able to discern if our girlie was gravid. Then one day they'll pop out I'll have my feeders ready to go!

Honestly, I'm more intrigued by the challenge of successfully raising a full clutch of baby Jacksons. It's quite the accomplishment, but one I'm ready and willing to take on.

I would definitely keep one or two of 'em for myself The rest, I'd probably try selling on craigslist, or give them to numerous pet stores on island (it's illegal to export them). I would also consider giving some away to friends but only if I know them well and trust that they have the time and energy to give them the proper care they deserve
